4x12 score! Most likely

Post by bubbastain »

Randomly stopped by GC and saw one of the newer 6505 cabs with the white piping for $249. Did a little research since I remember those being loaded with Celestion V30's. Hooked it up to an Iconic head and they sound like V30's. I guess I'll find out when I can pick the cab up in two weeks. Near perfect condition too. I smell WDW coming....

Interesting. I had no idea they had switched to V30s. I thought they were still using the Sheffields, which I like btw.

Regardless at $249 that's a hell of a deal. These cabs are really well made.
Guitars:

Depends on when you ask. I got tired of constantly updating this section lol

Cabs
Marshall 1960A w V30s/ Seismic 2x12 w Redback and V30.

Yeah, I also really like the Sheffields but I already have the 1200's from an old 5150 cab and also two cabs loaded with the Sheffield 1290's that I love. It's been a while since I've had V30's so I figured why not. Apparently Peavey started loaded V30's in the 6505 cabs with the white piping a few years ago. Cabs are definitely solid and well built.

Nice!!

I need some V30s in my life

I’m so confused about what I’m supposed to think about Sheffields… I feel like I unanimously heard they were trash but Eric, Billy and maybe even Raf? Have positive things to say about them and I definitely trust all those dudes

Peavey make a few different Sheffield speakers. I like the ones that came with the 5150 cabs. I think the model number is 1200, if I'm not mistaken.

There is another one I like but I can't remember which model #..

Some of the models are not great though. But yeah, it's a speaker line, so it depends of which Sheffield it is.

I never disliked the Sheffield’s in the 5150 212s I had but they weren’t really my thing. I lasted tonother speakers. I played through them for years before I started trying other speakers and never had a problem lol

But yeah these newer ones have v30s.

The Sheffield's that came in the 5150 cabs were the 1200's. They were supposedly modeled after EVH's old ass Greenbacks. I like them. They are a bit of a smoother sounding speaker to me. Some people have made comments about having a bit of that blanket over the cab kinda thing going on, and I can see that. I like them paired with more with the Triple X than I do with the 6505 line of amps.

The XXX Sheffield's are in the V30 ballpark for sure.

The Sheffield 1290's are a terrible speaker according to the majority of the internet. However, they are one of my favorite speakers and both of my Emperor 4x12's are loaded with them. I'd say they are kind of a love child between GB's and the old T75's at least to my ears. I'm sure my oversized Emperor cabs help a weee bit.

I like the 1290's as well. Had them in a couple of 412MS cabs. Sounded great with my JSX, XXX and 6505+.

Can’t say I’ve ever had any experience with the 1290s. I’d love to try a set of the 1200s just to see how close to a GB they get. Weren’t the 1230s their take on a V30 also? And I don’t think they were exactly the same as the XXX speakers. I did play through a XXX cab with th XXX speakers before and I dug em.
