Incoming NAD

Post by maggotspawn »

My 50 watt JCM 800 clone is apparently being delivered tomorrow. Shipping from China took about a month. No tracking until it got to the US.
The wait was brutal. Stoked.

Welp, the good news is the amp is here. Bad news is like the Plexi clone it arrived with a broken fuse holder
and slightly bent chassis. I wired in a fuse and checked the bias which was cold. Quickly tested it out.
Sounds killer. Going to crank it up when the GF goes out later. I'll try and get a clip too.

Damn!! again???

I'd get a set of transformers and choke for this amp man. These plastic TFs are not good.
Guitars:
'78 Les Paul Pro / '89 SG Special/ '04 Gibson Les Paul Classic 3 pickup / Jackson Star/ Endres Tele / Fernandes Rhoads/ ''74 Hohner MIJ strat/ 2 Partscasters

Amps:
Depends on when you ask. I got tired of constantly updating this section lol

Cabs
Marshall 1960A w V30s/ Seismic 2x12 w Redback and V30.

Yeah, I know it's a gamble ordering these. Luckily it's an easy fix. I thought about a set of transformers for it and the Plexi. Do you think new ones would fit with out too much trouble?

yeah just look up Marshall specs TFs. Heyboer is great, Hammond is cool too. Take it to a tech and it's an easy job to replace. He might have to drill new mounting holes in the chassis but that's no big deal.

I think that's going to be a worthwhile improvement in these amps. Even if they sound good already, these transformers are most definitely holding the amps back from their full potential.

Honestly, if the amp sounds good and works fine I'd leave the transformers - no point putting lipstick on a pig  Nothing inherriantly wrong with an explosed plastic bobbin though, plenty Hammonds are like that.

Good point. I don't know if it could sound much better.

Tried it with my Bugera attenuator.
Tonal bliss at bedroom levels.
Out of all the amps I've tried with the Bugera, this had the least amount of tone suck.
