NAD

Post by NinjaRaf »

Got this absolute behemoth of an amp from Tom yesterday. This thing is awesome!! Not SUPER different from the amps I tend to like, but different enough that it has it's own thing going on, while being similar enough that I love it so far!

Cat already loves it.

This clip is with 6l6s. The EL34s are not biasing up properly on both sides, so one might be bad, and I don't wanna risk running a bad tube. I ordered some KT77s for it, so those should be here next week. Tom said these were his favorite in it, and we tend to like similar tones, so I figure this is the best way to go. Regular stuff here...actually same mic position as the last Mark VII clip with the Redback and M201.

Quick video with 6l6s.

And one with EL34s.

I was pretty surprised at how much of a difference the power tubes made. Definitely lower volume with the EL34s, probably because I can't bias both sides correctly right now.

Anyway, I am obviously just starting to get to know this thing, and looking forward to really seeing what it can do.

Yeah, maybe he will randomly chime in lol. But I checked out his site. The 2 gain channels are the Body Hammer design, which I guess he doesn't make anymore. This is what he says about it on the site. Tom mentioned this was his highest gain channel available at the time.

Body Hammer: A few amps with this design were made. It’s an earlier version of Plasma Blade. This is a very aggressive modern high gain design but also fairly tight sounding, capable of somewhat more “American” overdrive character in the sound (compared to my previous high gain designs which were a bit more “British” in their overdrive character). Plasma Blade can get a little bit more aggressive/tight.

These cats always look like that, which is hilarious because it's the complete opposite of their personalities. They are the sweetest, snuggliest, most chill and laid back cats.

Congrats thats a killer amp and sounds really good. One can simply never have enough tube amp options.

Nice man, that sounds like a great fit for you.

Weirdly enough for me, I like the EL34s better. Sounds tighter and thrashier.

Say hey to Tom for us, I know he’s been busy the last few years. Good to see he’s still on that metal grind.
