NPAD!

Post by GuitarBilly »

I went to Atomic today and found this power amp:

Image

This is the 500w version of the Mosvalve, the same amp Jerry Cantrell used with his Bogner Preamp in the Facelift and Dirt tours. Pretty rare these days. The regular version is easy to find but this is a complete different beast.

It sounds MASSIVE. Easily able to keep up with my Plexi and 800, if not overpower them.
And I am only using one side of it. I will try it in stereo with 2 cabs eventually. My 1960A has stereo capabilities but this amp puts out twice the max wattage it can handle.
Cantrell used 4 cabs with it. I can't even imagine!!
Guitars:
'78 Les Paul Pro / '89 SG Special/ '04 Gibson Les Paul Classic 3 pickup / Jackson Star/ Endres Tele / Fernandes Rhoads/ ''74 Hohner MIJ strat/ 2 Partscasters

Amps:
Depends on when you ask. I got tired of constantly updating this section lol

Cabs
Marshall 1960A w V30s/ Seismic 2x12 w Redback and V30.

Mosvalve is so much better than modeling. I don't know why more companies didn't go down that road. How is it side by side vs the tube rig?

That's pretty sick! I do wish there were more good SS power amp options.

Out of the ones currently in production the Palmer Macth 402 is a really solid amp. I was using one until I got this one and it sent several tube power amps packing because it was so close to them. I had a Mesa 2:50, Carvin T100 and a Fryette Power Station 2 and the Palmer survived them all.

This one is a bigger and better amp for sure, probably closer to a 2:90 in term of sound and power.

Bogner... haven't heard that name in awhile.

This thread makes me wonder if Reinhold Bogner regrets refusing to do the JC signature amp...

...to me, it feels like Bogner stopped being talked about the day GuitarWorld featured JC with a couple of Friedman BEs.

Would be interesting if you could find a Fish preamp to pair with that thing.
If you can't play good, play loud.

That Palmer unit does look pretty good and I'd totally buy one if I needed a 1u power amp.

I keep meaning to go up to atomic when I am in DC area for work. These deals Billy finds just cement that need. I still have a soft spot for rack gear. My current live rig is my old ADA MP1 into the Keeley halo and a mooer radar for power amp simulation and ir loading. Long live rack!
