New cab day! (And a story of borderline sketchy shenanigans

Post by duncan »

So, if you've ever purchased a guitar from Japan, you’ll know that it’s pretty common for third party “distributors” to list guitars being sold in brick and mortar stores, and once the online listing sells, they take that money to the store and buy the guitar.

So a pretty baller guitar rig came up for sale a few days ago for an absolute steal.

1978 Hiwatt DR504 and a 1978 Marshall 1960A.

The seller was asking what would be considered a good price for the head alone.

So I figured I’d try the Japanese method. I listed the head for the asking price and inside a day, it sold. I took the money to the seller, took the rig home, mailed out the head.

So yeah. I got a ‘78 T1221 Blackback-loaded cab for free today.

It sounds pretty ok.

Bold move indeed but holy fuck that is a sweet, sweet cab!

But no raep. A little disappoint.

You son of a...

Nice going man! I've seen similar deals and thought of doing the same, but never did. Great way to get a really cool free cab with zero risk.

Well, if I’m honest, I was able to get the rig for $200 less than asking, so I was actually paid some money to take this cab.

Absolutely. If the amp sold before I could buy it, I would have just refunded the guy and told him it wasn’t available anymore. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I might do this more often.

Awesome score and those are my favorite speakers. I have a straight front Marshal cab with those and it sounds bad ass.

Bahaha yeah the fact the buyer was Canadian was def the x-factor. He was able to pay me with an interac transfer (instant to my bank account) rather than PayPal which would have taken a few days.
