Work Anniversary

Post by IndyWS6 »

I had forgotten it was today but received an email and certificate from HR this morning: 42 years of service - Woo Hoo! Although accurate, before you start calling me old, I started when I was in 11th grade in high school as a Co-op.

On the serious side, I feel fortunate to have stayed gainfully employed with the "same" company (multiple name changes due to acquisitions and divestitures) for that length of time.

On the not so serious side, it just means that I was too lazy to look elsewhere and job hop

Congrats.

I'm slightly over half that far, mostly for the same reason. Twenty-three years for me as of last December.

There were some very thin years along the way where it might have been best to move on (automotive industry cycles...), but the company that acquired the core business I was part of several years ago is great. Best boss I've ever had, significant salary increases, annual bonuses that actually amount to something. :thu:

had my 25 year anniversary last year. in addition to a crappy gift you pick from a catalog, you can have up to $125 reimbursed for a luncheon for you and some co-workers (beer! ). usually, you'd go out somewhere, bring a supervisor the receipt, and he'd expense it for you and it would show up on your paycheck.

since we've been working at home for the past 3 years, the new procedure is to use several different software programs to expense the bill and get reimbursed. Supervisor directed me to a training course for the software ... WAY too complicated for what it is. 30 minutes in, i said fuck it, not worth the $125

I still remember my wife being super excited when I was at the same job 2 years in a row.

26 years in now. 20 year gift was an overnight bag. 25 year was a blanket. Ah, academia...

It's a long story, but I didn't get any of the standard "trinkets" for the milestone anniversaries along the way due to austerity programs, business changes, acquisitions, etc. With the new corporate structure, my boss made sure I received the standard plaque and recognition for my 40th anniversary and personally bought me a complete set of Wusthof knives (he knows I like to cook). Pretty sweet.

I better get a new car if I make it to 50 years

That’s impressive and an honorable achievement. Congrats, now go celebrate. Maybe a really great burger or bowling :D :hi5:

Maybe grab that Seinfeld DVD box set you've been eyeing since Y2k.
