One of the best science fiction universes ever conceived, and one of the finest examples of the genre ever filmed. It's a damn shame the final season got truncated.

The books are amazing as well.

The books are my favorite SciFi ever. The perfect amount of hard scifi.

A lot of scifi I read/watch feels like fantasy in scifi clothing. I much prefer something grounded.

Yeah, and one thing the show got really right was the communication devices that the people carry around on the show. They both look and give off the feel of a futuristic version the smartphones that all of us carry around right now. They clearly used the overall aesthetic of them and thought about how future tech would advance them. Makes the show and characters feel more relatable in that context. They're all carrying around these rectangles in their pockets to communicate, same as we do. Brilliantly done.

Amos is one of my all time favorite characters and the show really gets him right.

100%. Wes Chatham plays the character perfectly, too. He's the most compelling character on that entire show not named Camina Drummer.

Forgot to mention Exterminate all the Brutes.

Thus far I haven't gotten any really new information from the show (2 episodes in), but the information is presented in a very different way than I've seen it presented before. Most shows about the subject tend to be extremely careful in how they handle the darker parts of racially charged historical events, while this show is more like taking sledgehammer blows tot he face repeatedly for an hour at a time.

It is a really well made program, but if you're a white dude that sometimes gets serious pangs of white guilt, avoid at all costs. This show would put you in an asylum.

3rd Episode of Exterminate all the Brutes went surreal with the modern folks watching a lecture by a "scientist" from the past giving a lecture on how races are differentiated. Best part of the whole thing so far is the older black dude in a modern suit telling the dude, "Fuck you. Two times."

It's a hard program to watch sometimes. Popping those little moments in to lighten it up briefly before deep diving on more atrocity helps.

Caught up with Ozark. God damn. Ruth's out for blood. As much as I don't want to see her die, I could totally get down with her doing a full-blown shooting up the compound and taking shot after shot just managing to kill off the top dog with her last breath. Though, of course, I'd much rather see her destroy the bastard outright and just walk away, that's just not the way this show works.

FWIW, Wyatt got what he deserved. I couldn't believe he'd do what he did to Ruth and then on top of it get all sanctimonious about it. What a dick.

I was really hoping Ruth would take out Wendy. Man, I can't wait for that bitch to die horribly.

Wheel of Time. It was ok I guess. I'll probably watch the rest of it but I wasn't blown away by it.

Just started Money Heist.

The Gilded Age is not easing up on the humor. Since it's from the same people that made Downton Abbey I have to ask, was Downton Abbey this fucking funny? Holy shit. For a period drama this thing is laced with lulz so much I have to stop every once in a while to rewind because we're laughing over it.

We also finished Exterminate all the Brutes. Man, that last episode is gonna trigger any snowflake that made it that far. There's some legit bird flipping from the filmmaker towards our sanitized history lessons. Well deserved in most every case, and anybody paying attention would know that, but yikes are some people gonna react poorly to it.

I'm glad we watched it even if it was a hard watch. Brutal.

Just about every line Maggie Smith had in Downton Abbey is funny. The rest of the cast, pretty much never.

Started Will Arnett's Murderville. Interesting concept: Arnett is world weary homicide detective and each week he gets a celebrity guest as a new partner. The celebrity guest is not given a script so all of their dialogue is improvised.

The first episode with Conan O'Brien was OK but the second one with Marshawn Lynch is totally cracking me up. I am surprised how good Lynch is at improvisation.

Finished this... I suppose I knew it was a dark comedy but I didn't pick up on it being a parody a la scary movie so much from the first episode or two  . I guess it started out subtle before making it more blatant and silly in the late episodes.

Started Reacher last night; couldn’t help it I’m a huge fan of this series and have read it all the way through maybe 3-4 times.

It’s ok, I’d give it maybe a 5/10….sort of sucks for me that they based the first season off of the first book and I know every single thing that happens. Major plus is that it’s not fucking Tom Cruisr playing him lol

Monsterland
Just as well be called mindfuck. Every episode starts off with a simple premise, then it quickly ramps up into the stratosphere of weird. From a big business dude running an oil company that fucks the environment and then starts to think he's god, or may have actually been possessed by god, you get left uncertain, to a dude that thinks he's keeping a mermaid as a pet as a result of that oil spill until the water is properly cleaned and ends up getting exactly what you'd expect him to get, to a girl losing her mind slowly and you end up wondering if it was her that lost her mind, or her wife that lost her mind. These stories are fucked up in the weirdest, wildest ways.

Definitely a YMMV type show. I know some people would get ultra-triggered by some episodes, or just hate the premise altogether. But we dig it. Can't watch more than one at a time, but we dig it.

Just found out Letterkenny is getting a spin-off: Shoresy. And Jared Keso is playing Shoresy out and proud. Dis gon be gude.

Watched the Wu Tang doc on Prime. Was a cool companion piece to the Hulu series. The way RZA and his brother set up their business (everyone under their umbrella but able to be a free agent when their time comes while still retaining their rights to Wu as a whole) was very ingenious.

I never knew the story behind that last album other than the pharma-bro angle. In that it was a cut and paste job that the members weren't privy to the actual the fact that it would be sold as a Wu album. Seemed to make a little bit of uncomfortableness in the room with them when discussed understandably but cool to see they recognize their value to each other as brothers basically.

When the guest has Will cracking up is the best part.

Dude being all, "I prefer you use my last name."
"SHITWAGON?"
"Yeah."

LOL.

Started "The Last Girl." One episode in and it's already mind-fucky. The premise is very cool. Dude was building a house for his family. His wife and kid go to the job site to visit him, and an incomplete wall fell on them and killed them. So he stops the project, then redesigns it. Then he interviews clients to see if they're worthy of the house. Rent is $0, so long as you agree to let the house collect data on you, and agree to follow the rules of the house, of which there are many.

Add some creepy layers about how he only lets women that look like his dead wife be in the running at all, and by the looks of it he weasels his way into their lives. It's kinda spinning the psychological thriller thing in a way I haven't seen before. At least, that's what it looks like so far. Guess we'll see as we keep going.

Mighty Gemstones season 2
Peacemaker.

Both manage to get me distracted long enough to forget where I am.

I like when shows do that.

Finished watching an 8 part remake of Around The World in 80 Days (2021-2022)
It starred David Tennant (Dr. Who # 11) as Phileas Fogg and it's very well done. The final episode had you biting your nails!
I missed episode 2 so, I have the DVD on pre-order at Amazon.

The Last Girl twisted about the way I expected it to. Still a mind fucker and still worth the watch.

Gemstones is hilarious while still having some nice underlying drama. Fucking Devine and the cross sitch was overplayed to absolute perfection. Beginning to suspect the kid's liaison from last season is twiddling the control knobs some. Baby Billy getting nose-busted by his son was payday material. God that show fucks.

Watched the new "season" of Space Force mostly in one go. I sense "Don't Look Up" coming at us. The ineptitude of literally every level of leadership on that show can't possibly result in anything else. Granted, they'll probably attempt an Armageddon level of dumb before letting the fucker slam into the Earth, but still.

Watched Station Eleven over the long weekend. 2 episodes left? Good watch, albeit kind of a little too timely at points. Interesting scenario and way that everyone is seemingly ending up tied together. Can't remember if I read about it here or elsewhere? Good stuff.

I probably babbled here about it at some point.

It's super funny to me about the graphic novel, as I'm watching this as I was just getting to the point where I had two printed copies of my own book in existence. It sent my imagination, already in super overdrive from the creative process, into all types of nightmare scenarios where somehow Captain Hollander ends up being some savior type to some future wacko.
