I've been out of the loop with new tech. Are there any other pedals similar to the IR-X?

I think the pedal sounds really good, but it's a bit too tame/smooth for my liking. I'm not a lead guitar player since I can do much better with synths.

I do have the Rigel preamp and it does angry well but doesn't play well with my fuzz or overdrive pedals. It just does high gain.

I just got the Ampman Classic. It's an actual amp, but it can be used as DI rig as well. No tubes but it sounds great and it's almost the same exact size as the IR-X..The Redbox cab emulation is really good, but it can be turned off if you want to use an IR loader. I made a demo of it, although I am using it through an actual cab:

Also, the AMT S-11 is great. In fact, AMT has a whole line of tube preamp pedals that sound really good. They all have cab sim but it's very rudimentary. You'd have to pair these with an IR loader, which is pretty simple these days.

SansAmps are a good option too.

The Synergy Syn1 is awesome. Not a pedal but it's not very big. Decent cab sim but it also can be turned off and paired with an IR loader.


Laney IRT Loudpedal - I haven't tried one out yet, but I had IRT Studio and it sounded great.

Two Notes Opus has been getting great reviews. Although that's digital so it's more of a modeling device.


So yeah lot of options.

Finally, Dave Friedman has hinted that he's working with Boutique Amps Distribution to make other versions of the IR-X. So possibly a Soldano version etc ... he didn't give much information about when would be released or any other details it though so it could be a while.

I might just wait at that point. I like the appeal of having the preamp and IR loader in the same box. It would allow me to just bring my board or play through the PA. I'm much more interested in a soldano, fryette or diezel offering.

I like the friedman but its just too polished or tame for my liking.
