J Rockett the Dude Clip

I never made a clip for this. I really took some time to get this dialed in with my Vibrolux. Some of the settings may seem odd on the Vlux but I think it translates to what I was going for in the mix. The Dude is based around the Dumble sound but I don’t have much interest in the super smooth fat lead thing. Instead I went for more of a pissed off Tweed type tone.

Guitar is my American Special Strat - Allparts maple neck, Pure Vintage 59s for the neck and middle (although I don’t touch the middle positions) and SSL-6 for the bridge. Dude is Level about 11 o clock (unity or close to), Ratio is 1:30, treble about 3:30 (its kinda subtle until after 3:00) and deep at 2:00. Amp is vibrato channel, bright on (the pedal is dark without it. It’s like a Mark amp without the GEQ), volume 4.5, treble 6.5, bass 3 and reverb 3. I use these same settings clean with singles or HBs. I like the glassiness of the bright cap and getting it up to volume lessens the harshness. This is pretty loud. The amp doesn’t get much louder past 5.5 and just starts breaking up then. Speakers are Weber 10F150Ts which are bright and deep but seem to translate well with the Pyle 57 clone. I’m pointed at the middle of the cone.

Sounds great!!! Reminds me of Mike Campbell's lead tone (Tom Petty's lead guitarist)

That’s exactly what I was going for. I’m not even gonna lie. I love Mike Campbell’s tone and playing.

yeah if that is what you were going for, then the mission was fully accomplished, because it's the first thing that popped into my mind when I heard the clip. Good stuff.

That last strum at 1:16 fades into what sounds like a harmonica!
Love that jangly sound!!!

That might be a combo of the reverb and the speakers. I don’t think they’re doped. I’ve never verified. But I gotta watch gain levels else I get a little cone cry. Which the harmonics from that can be pretty cool sometimes. Adds to the brashness.

Thanks dude! I think I could build a song around that progression in the first half... might try to.

Thanks dude! I think this is gonna be close to my base American style drive tone. I got some stuff I want to write around this kind of sound.
