I have gone through a few amps recently including the 50w stealth, 100w stealth, another Mark III, another Mark IV and most recently got this guy. I feel like its more usable than the regular 100w 6l6 stealth, at least on the green and red channel. The Mark VII is really great, it kinda dominated the III and IV at least to my ears.
Anyways, the clip is a hodgepodge of 4 tracks micing my cab as follows:
EVH Red - 75w creamback - sm57
EVH Red - 75w creamback - sm7b
Mark IV mode - 75w creamback - sm57
Mark IV mode - EVM 12L - sm7b
Its sloppy, I took like no time on it and don't practice enough these amps crush though

The tone fits the style for sure... The very ending hkadmefucked for a sec.. Like where is he going with this oddity? lol.. But it was over..

Also don't sleep on the Blu channel.. Thats truly where the flexibility and ability to craft a bit more unique tone lies.. It generally needs a boost or EQ or sumthin just to juice it into a bit more gain, but its def not necessary... But even if you have an SD1, instead rolling up the tone, use it with the tone down a bit under noon, and slam as much gain as you want from the pedal into the blue and as long as you keep those upper mids under control it can get super brutal.. But clips sounded killer man..! I could def hear that dark but tight and chunky red channel in there..

And if thats your settings on the Red, its almost exact how I have mine at the moment.. It ca sound good with different settings, but that was sorta my point about the blue in that you can go hog wild provided you have the right pedal, (boost or EQ).. But the red channel sorta has a window that works well.. And you're basically where I found it to be...

also for Blue Channel. I RARELy get above 3 on the mids... ITs very mid heavy channel...Try scooping it a bunch and see what you find if you havent already.. Obviously reign in the bass and whatever gets too prominent when dialing out the mids, but that can be a thrash metal frenzy on that channel straight in with the mids scooped..

Yeah it probably would have been quite a bit better if I played tighter, another thing I notice is for whatever reason when I render my tracks the bass gets crazy listening back it sounds like a mess kinda, I’m going to try to get things sounding tighter because I think the tones are there. And yeah that’s my settings for red in the pic haha, I want to try maybe a bit more presence next time, and maybe just dial track it with only the Evh and see how it sounds.

Also you’re aware that the BLUE channel gain control acts as a bit of “boost” for the Red channel, right? So it doesn’t so much add gain or volume but the Blue channel gain control has some crossover to the red. With the Blue channel gain maxed it’ll be the most aggressive the red channel can get. And vice Versa. Turn it down a bit slower of an attack and rounder bottom. It’s subtle but certainly not insignificant. It can be the final piece of the tone puzzle

Yeah cranking that blue channel gain out the red channel gain in the perfect spot with the attack for me.

I usually don’t put it on 10, I’ll just leave it around 7 since that’s about the gain I use on the channel. But I see sometimes guys maybe use that channel for a lower crunch channel and below noon it definitely changes the red a fair bit. And I think some people may feel their amp is inconsistent if they are messing with the blue channel gain.

Yeah I could for sure see that happening. Or being slightly disappointed in how the red channel attack responds below that point where it really kinda wakes up.

Yeah I think the blue channel gain makes a really noticeable difference while playing, when it’s cranked it makes the attack VERY aggressive, it’s a really cool feature IMO
