There’s YouTube videos of their show last night in Mexico . Holy shit Phil sounds great , everyone actually sounds great, making me think I should see them when they come to Phoenix.

BROE there’s like 3-4 vids of this and I seriously got weirded out realizing just because of my ears that it was Rex and Phil but not Dime and Vinnie.
It REALLY weirded me out.

I noticed that Charlie's drums sounded like Vinnies and Zakk's tone was very close to Dimes. That being said, you can tell Zakk is trying his hardest to play Dimes parts without all the stupid berserker bullshit he adds.

I’ve watched a few of these and I’m pretty ok with this lineup. Charlie sounds awesome. They got his drum sound close to Vinnie’s and he’s playing the parts very well. Zakk is doing great too and being respectful of the parts and less over the top Zakk. My wife and I got tickets to see Metallica next year in Detroit (both days, she’s never seen them) and Pantera and Mammoth WVH are the openers on day 1, so I’ll definitely be seeing them.

I think it sounds good. I have nothing negative to say about their performance.
BUT!!!
I've seen Pantera many times starting in 1992. IMHO this doesn't sound/feel like Pantera. Not even close.
I love Zakk he's one of my all time favorite guitar players. And I love to hear him playing these songs. But Zakk has more sag in his rhythm playing than Dime. He's not sloppy but his attack on rhythm parts is not as sharp as Dime's. And oddly enough for leads it's the opposite. Dime had a smoother, more fluid style while Zakk lead style is very sharp/staccato. So that changes the music quite a bit even though he's playing everything correctly.
So it doesn't sound like Pantera. It sounds like BLS/Zakk playing Pantera. And that's great and honestly it's the way it should be. I knew Zakk would be respectful to play the parts right without trying to imitate Dime.
So that's all good. Just don't call it Pantera. The feel is very very different.
In short, I love it and I'm disappointed at the same time.
On other clips I thought Zakk had too many mids, but now I hear this and it's more scoopy than I thought which is good for this
I'm not a romanticized fan, only dug a few tunes from them over the years, so I know it's not going to be a popular opinion but Charlie is a huge upgrade at drums. He is nailing that sound and is pretty seamless integrating into the group. Zakk is Zakk, which I love but some spots are a bit jarring at how different they are sounding. Maybe he'll dial it in as we go along.
Why is Zakk playing his goofy Zakk guitars? They actually work for the gig, but I thought he was going to play Dime's guitars? Would love to see a show but just like sports, I am priced out

I think it sounds great. Dime and Vinnie are nerding out with Jesus and playing air guitar watching this.
They nailed the sonic aspect. Phil sounds like he did 25 years ago.

I’m not sure Rita Haney wants anyone playing Dime signature guitars, with the Dean lawsuit. That’s still active, isn’t it?

As someone who was a huge pantera fan as a kid I have exactly zero fucking interest in any of this whatsoever. Phil is a thick fucking racist and we need to stop giving him a free pass for the dumb shit he has done over the years even if he is one of the all time great metal vocalists. Still a racist - fuck him and everything he's about. No more of my money for him. As for the rest of it, well it's not pantera without Vinnie and Dime and good luck fixing that. Call it something else... Cowboys from hell, tampora, I don't care, just not pantera because it isn't.

2nd show. Sounds awesome. Tighter than the first show.
Bummer they're not doing any trendkill stuff on these setlists.

I'll make sure to notify Dug Pinnick of your opinion so he can stop hanging out with Phil.
