Can't say I saw this coming.

Sounds sorta like old school Metallica, but I don't much care for the track.

Killer riffs. The vocal melody is not great and kind of takes away from the rest of the song.

I like it overall.

ts not that bad to my tin ears

The production and tones seem to be a little better/improved along with the riffing --- speaking of improved Kirk seems to semi phoning it in lately (I am NOT a Kirk basher at all!!...) but he needs to just try a little different direction with his playing - much respect for his career and contribution but not feeling the leads. Listen to Kiko and his work in Megadeth

Overall not bad, glad to see the guys still jamming after 35 years :idk:

I’m on the fence on this one:

James really needs to figure out what to do about his voice. It’s obvious that he’s straining.

His rhythm guitar playing is the standard, James Hetfield. That is about as good a compliment as he needs.

Lars, who isn’t the metal community’s favorite drummer, actually sounds pretty good here.

It’s YouTube, so I don’t think I’ll really get a good feel for Rob’s bass.

Kirk’s solo was sort of phoned-in. I hope the rest of the album will do him justice.

The song itself has an Overkill-era Motörhead feel to it, and the guitar tones, which are probably Fractal, are actually decent.

It may not be the best song on the album, but it’s enough to pique my interest.

Anyone else thinking James is looking like Johnny Cakes?

Pretty weak. Got thru 1:15 the first time then finally listened all the way. I mean I’m not completely against formulaic shit but it has to HAVe something to work with. This is as by the book as I think I’ve ever heard from them

I dig it. It's not their best but far from their worst. I was as surprised as anyone when this dropped.

I actually like the song but the mix pulls out all of the potential heaviness.

I don't know how I feel about it. It doesn't sound too bad. But I am not 15 anymore. So.....

Another song has been released: Screaming Suicide. I’m less optimistic about this album than before. Eventually, Lite-FM-ica will poke its ugly nose out.

This is true. It's strange, Megadeth can put out some shredders and then surprise you with their radio BS here and there, but people have come to accept it (that they release shitty albums). Metallica on the other hand, people are still hoping beyond hope that we'll get classics again and get sorely disappointed.

As you said, I'm less optimistic now.

I think I made it thru 45 seconds of that last one. Awful.. really.

I sorta do think they want to fill that boring awful position Motörhead filled for the last, idk, 30 years of their career. Lol. Formulaic,, boring with “Hey look, it’s us using our instruments like we used to.. Kinda..” and they get the absolutely vanilla “It’s not the worst thing they ever did” participation trophy.. That’s gotta be a depressing place to be, tbh.

Hopefully, those are just the radio singles, and the rest of the album is Puppets x everything Testament ever did x Sound of White Noise = awesome. I’m not optimistic.

Not sure if anyone has heard the new track dropped today.

The intro riff sounds like a derivative of one of their other riffs, other than that, it's old Metallica still doing what they've done for last few years.

Yeah, by the time the vocals start I'm going, "We get it, James. You can still gallop like a champ." It's got good rhythmic bits here or there, and probably one of the better Metallica songs I've heard in the last decade or so. Damning with faint praise. :idk:
