Weird cover songs

I'm sure this has been...uh...covered before. But recently was listening to some of my old burned CDs and came across this cover I had kinda forgotten about. The fact that it's a cover of a popular Smiths song and covered by Quicksand may or may not be overly surprising, but it's the way they did it that makes it stand out to me. Crazy cool groove and tones. The production is fantastic as well. Great jam. I'm sure a lot of you know it.

Devo's Satisfaction is too obvious so, I can't post that.

This is more interesting than weird. The audience sings the oooos. If you want to skip the audience set up, go to 4:30

pretty fuckin good, right? I always loved their tones. Quicksand stamped it hard. Almost an original if it wasn't a cover. If that makes sense.

Menopause rhapsody was brilliant!
I'd send it to someone I know, but I'd regret it for years!

I did a gig with the Puddles guy once. Once.

It wasn't fun for me and was even less fun for him.

This was back around 2010, he had a weeknight gig at a downtown bar in Atlanta. A tiki bar kind of place. The band consisted of a Hawaiian lap steel player, an upright bass player, a keyboard player and Big Mike (Puddles) playing some kind of strange stand up percussion rig with all sorts of noisemakers hanging off it. I was on guitar as a last minute sub.

We were doing ironic cover versions of songs by bands like Dio, in a style suitable for a tiki bar. I suspected it might not be a fun night when the other guys started bringing out music stands.

"What are those?"

"They're music stands."

"Oh. What do you do with them?"

"You put your sheet music on them so you can read it while you play. Didn't (name of guitarist I was subbing for) ask if you can read music?"

"Well yeah but...you mean he was serious about that?"

And it kind of went downhill from there. I'm sure I played too loud and it just wasn't a good fit. Puddles kept looking at me like he wanted to pound me into the ground. He's about 6'8", so he probably could have. I wasn't asked back.

Pretty much your average run of the mill gig, with an upright bass and lap steel player doing lounge bar versions of hair metal songs being sung by a 6'8" bald guy.

Man, that sounds painful... slow motion painful... the kind of painful that free drinks and coke would only make worse!
