I’ve decided they are the perfect band. The complete package.

They sound macho without seeming like complete douches.

They sound shreddy without sounding like complete dorks.

They sound poppy without sounding like complete bitches.

I want to be them.

Phil Lynott was one of the great frontmen and songwriters of all time. Also, what they did to Rosalie was epic.

Just ordered the Live & Dangerous CD... :thu: :hi5:

Can't remember who they were warming up for but, I was at this show... (EDIT) the text in the YouTube link says they opened for Queen.
Some crazy dueling guitar shredding going on, midway through this vid...

I love Thin Lizzy. Jailbreak got me introduced to em, Live and Dangerous got me hooked. Other albums I own by them so far with reviews.

Thin Lizzy - first album. Very different from what they would become. 3 piece. Awesome record though. Return of the Farmer’s Son and Saga of the Aging Orphan are awesome. Eric Bell is more psychedelic style guitarist.

Night Life - first album with Robbo and Gorham. A bit more soul type music for Phil but still good stuff. Sha La La, She Knows, It’s Only Money and Still In Love With You are great cuts.

Fighting - pretty damn close to Jailbreak type sound here. Awesome album. Standout favorites are Suicide, For Those Who Love to Live, Fighting my Way Back, Ballad of The Hard Man, Wild One, but there’s no bad songs here.

Jailbreak - Outstanding record. A start to enter for sure.

Johnny the Fox - this may be my favorite Thin Lizzy record. Sweet Marie is the only song I’m not huge on. Every other song on here? Amazing. The first 8 songs are must listens. Just so good.

Bad Reputation - this album is interesting because it’s pretty much all Scott Gorham on guitar as Brian Robertson had been sacked. But during the recording process Scott talked Phil into letting him back to do some solos and he rejoined up through the following tour (Live and Dangerous is from that tour). This one’s another start to end for me. Opium Trail, Southbound, Dancing in the Moonlight and Killer Without a Cause are excellent.

Black Rose - the one full album Gary Moore was on all the way. It rules. A couple songs I’m not big on but I won’t fault Phil for writing a song for his daughter. Toughest Street in Town, Waiting For an Alibi, Got to Give it Up, Get out of Here and Róisín Dubh are excellent. The last one there incorporates Irish folklore and songs. It’s amazing.

Thunder and Lightning - Thin Lizzy got heavy. They added a bit of NWOBHM guitar to their repertoire and they pulled it off. Gorham and John Sykes are beastly on this album. Thunder and Lightning, Cold Sweat, Sun Goes Down, Holy War, Bad Habits are standouts but I like the whole record.

The albums I don’t have are Tales of a Blue Orphanage, Vagabonds of the Western World (that’s next to buy), Chinatown and Renegade.

They were the next big leap for hard rock after Sabbath . They influenced Iron Maiden and almost every heavy band after .

Fuck yeah! I’ve watched a bit from this show Gary put on. Just stellar.

My Thin Lizzy vinyl collection has grown a bit. Now I’ve got Jailbreak, Johnny the Fox, Bad Reputation, Live & Dangerous and Black Rose all on vinyl. My copies of Johnny the Fox and Bad Reputations are even original pressings that didn’t cost an arm and a leg.

If you haven’t, try to see Scott Gorham play with whatever band he goes out with again. I saw him play with Black Star Riders a few years ago, and the harmony stuff is so amazing to see and hear in person. Maybe not the same as with Robbo or Moore, but the dude rips this stuff out better than anyone I remember seeing.

I’ll check it out for sure! Scott doesn’t always get a lot of credit next to Robbo, Gary or Sykes, but he did most of Bad Reputation by himself so he’s awesome in my book.

My band used to cover jailbreak and it was always a fun one to play. Technically we still have it as a song on our master list of songs but with current line up with our lead singer no longer play it.

A few months ago our original lead singer stopped by and jammed for a few songs and here's the lead breaks from that jam

Emerald is a fabulous song. The twin lead is very melodic and brilliant. It has a bit of a traditional irish music influence. The live version from live and dangerous is amazing.
