Alex trying to reform Van Halen?
If this is true, shame on Alex and Satriani for even considering it! And good for Jason Newsted for realizing it's an impossible feat. There's just no VH without Eddie. Well maybe with Wolfgang. https://www.blabbermouth.net/news/joe-s ... alen-tour/

Sounds more like a tribute show type thing....i'd go
Doubt it'll actually happen though
People tend to forget about him but Alex is also Van Halen....he has every right to do this type of thing IMO

Yes to all of this. Alex being done drumming is a real shame, despite it being completely understandable why.

That was my thought when I heard this from Satriani. I think it'd be cool to do this in tandem with G3. You'd have Satriani, Vai, Lukather, Petrucci and/or Paul Gilbert open with a short set. Then each of them comes back for half a dozen VH songs apiece. Dave sings Dave songs, Sammy sings Sammy Songs, Gary Cherone gets invited to participate. Then they all come on stage for the encore of You Really Got Me, Panama and Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love ending with an Eruption/Cathedral/Spanish Fly/Women in Love/Outta Love Again guitar battle royale.

It says right in the first paragraph that it's a tribute. Lame that Newsted decided to leak it. I wonder if it will get off the ground.

This is making some heads comically asplode on TGP.
Re: Alex trying to reform Van Halen?
it makes more sense to ask Michael Anthony to play bass though yes / no ? Or the kid . I don't think any of those guys could put up with DLR for more then 5 min though .

couldn't disagree more
This train should keep on running as long as anyone involved wants to play. Newsted comes off unlikable leaking it and admonishing the project. Note that this is Alex Van Halen, he can do whatever he wants moving forward and I hope it involves music
Satriani could kill it technically buy not sure if he can get those tones...wonder if he would play wolfgangs and 5150s?
PhilX, Dweezil, or Pete Thorn would probably be better fits

This amp I never heard before needs to be better.

For sure. I think Alex can do whatver he wants in regards to playing the songs he was the main right hand man to Eddie. Alex is an amazing player too in his own right. Like legit incredible and he wouldn’t be doing it for money or clout or whatver. But something to continue on the legacy and to enjoy his life. To me Satch is prolly a good guy to do it as well since he seems most capable to be super humble and actually really get in and play the songs with the same inflection as Eddie. Even tho there is seemingly a million Eddie impersonators out there, Satch is a good choice

Yep, I think Satch would be a killer fit. He can play his tits off and still not be overly-mechanical. Lots of feel. I think it would be a fun thing to see live, and yeah, AVH is a damn boss. No reason for him to NOT do something. He was as big a part as Eddie. Hell, he was probably the most talked about drummer with non-drummers I know besides Peart. Like, non-musicians know his name.

I agree with all of this. Alex should continue to play this music, he's a major part of it. Satch is a killer choice for this, he's capable of playing the material and respectful enough to add some of his own flair to it so it's not a mere imitation, which I'm sure it's what Eddie would've wanted, since he was all about innovation and originality.
Also, while Wolfgang is trying to establish his own path right now - which I respect and think he's doing it well - I think 10-15 years down the road, he'll come around and want to pay homage to his family legacy, very much like what happened to Dweezil Zappa. At that point, I think he could be a great fit for the guitar role, as he's already a very capable guitar player in his own right.
