The problem is going to be getting an iphone video into the software. Just tried Windows Movie Maker and Shotcut and can't import from the iphone. I can find and select the video on my phone from the laptop but when you click go it just sits there. What do?

edit: apparently swapping which usb port the phone is plugged into helps. the fuck :idk:

Not sure if it suits your particular use case, but for my daughters video projects we finally went with the free version of DaVinci Resolve

I got it when my kids were toying around with making home movies. One of them used it for a little while but never really caught on to become a thing. They’d rather play video games.

Lately I’m considering instituting the China policy.

Y'all aint been keeping up with the Wongs.

China has blocked online gaming recently. I think at first they reduced it to 3 hours a week, specifically one a hour per day 8pm-9pm Friday through Saturday. But more recently I think they either blocked it altogether or blocked the approval of any new games. Can't remember which it is.

I don't hate that idea. Though on bad days I've considered retroactive abortions before.

Don't even get me started on the great firewall of China...

The "real" China policy is restricting couples to only have a single child. Still way too many in my book.

Technically the plan worked, but I think the most interesting thing about the China policy are the unintended consequences. It was intended to curb the population growth. Families responded by only keeping male children, to carry on the family name, while females were routinely given up for adoption. So then you had almost an entire generation of Chinese males with no females; the men were forced to go to other countries to find brides. Now most Chinese babies are technically only half Chinese, and most are growing up outside of the PRC.

I spent a significant amount of my 30s in China and this sh!t interests the hell out of me.

This summer, I sat next to a 20-ish y.o. Chinese man on a plane. We made small talk, and he told me that he had a baby brother. I said really? He said that China has backed off the one child/family law, and so after 20 odd years, his parents had a second child! I asked him how China enforced the one child law, like, did they kill the baby, kill the parents, etc.? He told me that they would fine the shit out the parents for the extra kid, and would every year charge a huge penalty while the "illegal" kid was alive.
