Really cool plugins for recording. Not to be confused with the Sonic Maximizer guitar pedal. The Harmonic Maximizer is worth the $49.00.

I have the guitar rack from 20 years ago. It always sounded amazing but then somehow it was a trick because it was truly awful. Are you saying the plugin avoids that lol?

BBE originally sold the Sonic Maximizer rack unit for mixdowns in the recording studio and it was very popular for that job.
I think it was a mistake for them to market it to guitarists.... that's not what it was made for. But, I guess they were just trying to maximize their profits. (pun intended)
The Sonic Maximizer was so popular that Aphex came out with their Aural Exciter which was a better, but more expensive unit.

When I had my analog recording studio, I used the rack unit on every single stereo mixdown.
In the 1990's, buddy of mine was recording an album at a 24 track analog studio and he asked to borrow my unit for their mixdown because, that studio didn't have one.
Their engineer was skeptical until we patched it in and hit play. His eyes popped out of his head - he couldn't believe how good it sounded.
They used it on their entire album.
Another buddy had several albums out on Roadrunner Records and he used the Sonic Maximizer rack and plugin for both tracking and mixing. I never liked using it during tracking because, if you brightened things up a too much it was a pain in the ass to tweak it down.

These days, I'm recording with ProTools I still use the Sonic Maximizer for mixing down. I found that I like the Harmonix Maximizer a little better.
I also have a 500 Series Aphex Aural Exciter that I sometimes use to brightening things up before hitting the converter.
The Aphex Aural Exciter is better than the Sonic Maximizer but, the Aural Exciter plugin is $500. You can get the Vintage Aural Exciter for about $70.

I also have Ozone which basically does the same thing. So, if you have Ozone, you don't need the Sonic Maximizer.
If you don't have Ozone or the money for Ozone, $49 for the Sonic Suite is a good deal.
