Good mic for sure. I’d say it’s kinda In the standard “studio” mic category. I don’t know if EVERY studio has one type of thing, but my thoughts on gear acquisitions for studio stuff and mic’s especially is to just go with the standards. Or classics if within reach. For instance the sm7b recently, $400 for a souped up 57 sound? Didn’t want to pull the trigger on that for years, but damn it it just works and works well.
I originally cheaper out and got the akg c214. I immediately knew it wasn’t all that good. Figured well, I’ll try the real deal 414 and if that ain’t up to snuff then I guess it just isn’t for me. And the 414 smokes. The level of quality is immediately pro. They are doing the 414 a disservice by claiming the 214, and likely the 314 as well, are in the same family. Cause it was almost night and day difference.
Same for and md421. Don’t use it a ton, but when it works there’s a reason it’s so good. Especially with a proper mix with a 57. That’s why I got an API (flavored but legit API) preamp. That has a sound I didn’t have before and it fucking works. Next is to grab a proper NEVE style pre to kinda have both sides of the coin covered. I’m looking at Vintech for that.
Point is I have tried a bunch of, generally more affordable, options when it comes to studio gear and at times they work fine but on the whole, the standards haven’t let me down. And a 160 is on my list at some point too

so with ya ET- i really think solid mics are the easy button in so many ways. you find workarounds for lesser ones, and i have to all the time.. but when you find the magic.. it just WORKS. its like owning a well balanced hammer- it just does its job flawlessly without thinking, and you use that mental space to do OTHER things instead of fighting a lesser tool.
i love my m260.80, and my m300- super stoked for this dude to be in the arsenal!

Fuuuuuuu....
That mic is on my short list of mics to own. I got to play through one a couple years ago in a studio setting and it sounded amazeballs.

I just happened to stumble across an open box one of this for a STEEP discount.
Not sure if should, as I really was trying not to do unnecessary spending during this time.

Love those. I have the M130 and use it a LOT on acoustic guitars.
