Membership Level - Gear Forum Only

Hello all,

This is something I set up a while ago and was kind of keeping quiet about it because I would hope it wouldn’t be needed. But in light of the recent meltdown and a few complaints I got, it may be time to make an official announcement about it:

We have a Membership Level called Gear Forum Only - this membership level gives you full access to all user features on the forum but completely blocks the “General Discussion” forums. By block I don’t mean you won’t be able to post on it, I mean you won’t even see it.

This is something I created out of respect for those whose religion or political beliefs may find the content of these forums offensive, but still would like to participate in the gear discussions. That way, their beliefs can be respected, without affecting the other users’ freedom to discuss these issues.

Please note your posts will NOT show your status as a Gear Forum Only member, you will still be shown as a New/Registered/Hall of Fame member, based on your post count. So your privacy is completely respected and you won’t be singled out for making this choice.

If this is something you are interested in, please PM me and I will set you up with it.

On the other hand, here’s a word about off-topic threads in the gear forums:

Yes, we allow it and yes, we will continue to do so. So having a "Gear Forum Only membership" does not mean you won’t see ANY off-topic content. We move political/religious discussions to the Off-Topic forum but there is still a good amount of off-topic discussion and possibly objectionable language on the regular forums. If you can’t deal with ANY of it and want a forum that is 100% strictly on-topic, this is not the forum for you, sorry to say.

The way I see it is, whenever I hang out with my bandmates or other musicians we talk about gear and music a lot, but we also talk about a lot of other things. If that’s how musicians interact in real-life, why would it be any different in a musician’s forum? So as long as the rules are followed, OT threads WILL continued to be allowed and encouraged. So I can help you to filter out SOME of the off-topic content but come on, lighten up a little :)

Thanks,

Billy
