I only had a Dactivator for a short while, but I never liked that pickup, and one reason I haven't really used any Dimarzio for the last 10 years. Many of the newer Dimarzios started having this weird tone where it was like half bass from a neck pickup tone, mixed with half single coil quack. I hated that tone. I have been more into Duncan lately. The Nazgul has a solid bass, less lower mids, then a big spike in the upper mids. It can bring the metallic clank sound. I like it a lot for Pantera or Fear Factory type playing.

The only Dimarzio I have had since is a Crunch Lab 7 / Liquifer in my Ibanez 7 string. That set sounds pretty good. I have been thinking about trying the D-Sonic and PAF PRO lately.

You would probably like the Fishman Modern Fluence. It is very tight, bright, lots of mids, etc.... somewhat like that EMG tone you hear on AJFA, but tighter, and brighter.

I would love to hear how this sounds in a mix...seems like it would be killer for home recording or late night riffer madness

Interesting. I never knew this existed.

The last Dimarzio I liked was the EVO. Thats why I went back to the distortion.

Yeah, I just don't want active in my Strat.

Maybe a Dimarzio Dominion? I have read those are very tight and middy.

Guess I'll get the amp first, and go from there.

I have been playing the Katanas at GC, and I'm scared that if I get one, I'll spend all my time tweaking lol. My OCD kicks in with that stuff. Is Boss gonna release a 4x12 with the head?

I plugged mine in and tweaked out 4 presets, and haven't plugged it back in for like 6 months. There are a lot of ways to tweak it, but it just depends on how well you can leave it alone, lol. They have a 212 cab, but I wouldn't expect a 412 cab.

Another option, is I have some of those Mooer Preamp pedals. Those are pretty cool, and have minimal tweaking. Just get 1 preamp pedal, whichever you prefer, and something like a Mooer Baby Bomb to power it, into a 212 cab would be a pretty cool mini rig. I have been playing my 005 a lot lately.

I'll either do the 4x12 with a quilter, and some pedals. Or just do the Katana combo. Or maybe a Joyo Zombie head :beavis:

Have you guys played the new Randalls? I like the last RG/RH amps better. They have a darker/fuller sound. The new ones sound cheap. I'm going to compare the Katana with the Blackstar again tomorrow. I like the Blackstar, but I hear alot of them have issues. Same with the Marshall code. It heats up, and restarts. When I cut on the Vox VTX, the on/off button broke. thats why I don't like the push in buttons. We'll see what happens.

That Preamp Live is probably pretty cool. I have four of the Mooer Preamp pedals, and the Radar IR pedal. They are a lot of fun to mess around with. I have a bunch of mini pedals across my desk, lol.

I havn't played any of em. I was in GC a couple months back, and they had a like new Dime blacktooth 20 for only 39 bucks. I've just been playing it, untill I decide on an amp. Nobody carries the crap I want to try in person! Its been cold and rainy here, makes me lazy lol. Which mini pedals do you have?

I can never find anything local either. That is why I have been buying up some cheaper pedals. They don't cost a lot to check them out.

I have the Mooer 001, 005, 008, 012, and Radar, and Donner Tutti Love Chorus, Jet Convolution Flanger, and Yellow Fall Analog Delay. I want to get some more, but kinda paused on buying pedals at the moment. I will probably get some more Mooer pedals eventually.

How is the Diezel and 5150 3? I would like to try the Dual Rec one.

The 5153 and Dual Recto ones are like opposite ends of the same spectrum. They are both heavy and modern, but the 5153 is tighter, with crunchier in the mids. It almost sounds like it is already boosted. The Dual Recto is bassier, fuzzier, and not as focused overall. The 5153 can get away with being tight and aggressive on its own, but can sound good without a boost. I think the Dual Recto is pretty fat, fuzzy, and not very cutting without a boost. It can start to get that way with a Tubescreamer. The Diesel is kind of in between those 2. It has the bass of the Recto, but more cutting mids and highs like the 5153. The 005 is my favorite of the 3, but I do wish it had the amount of bass the others have.

I keep thinking about grabbing a 5153 III 50W head. They look very cool, and aren't really that expensive. I can see why they are so popular these days. I just don't need one enough to actually do it, lol.

I saw one at a good price a few months ago and almost bought it. I just couldn't find a reason why I should, lol. They are not cheap enough to just buy for the fun of it.

Stupid winter storm killed my power for the last two days. It was freezing!!! And another tree fell in my yard  I've never tried the EVH pedal in person. I wouldn't pay 200, but 120 if it rocks :rawk: I'm going to hit the stores this week, so we'll see what they have.

We had two back to back hurricans and a ice storm so far. My yard has been nothing but trees. I just got up the last one. I have woods behind my house, and of course all the trees have to fall into my yard  I went to GC and played some guitars. Man I love the ESP EC1000. Love that red/black color. But don't want to pay 900 bucks lol. Will look for used. I think I want it or the Schecter Banshee.
