The new Vox amp isn't too bad.

Hey Shask. Whats speakers you like with the Boss Katana? And have you ever tried the "sneaky" amp models? I heard the stock combo speakers were based on Greenbacks. I bet the head with V30s would rock.

I have had the same two 212 cabs for years, a Gflex 212, and an Avatar 212 with Eminence V12s. Both are V30 type speakers made by Eminence. Never felt the need to change them. It can get a little bright with them, as it is a bright amp, but you can dial it in using the Parametric EQ or Global EQ.
Yes, I have tried all the Sneaky stuff from the day they were discovered. There are some cool tones in there, but generally just prefer the stock tones+Parametric EQ. If you are good at EQ, you can dial in about anything. You can tell the stock tones are a little more lively and up-to-date compared to the sneaky stuff. You can tell they were not optimized for the amp... but there are some good sounds. The Power Drive or whatever, the Orange, and the MS I+II are all cool models. There are some more effects also, like a different Chorus, and Tera Echo and such.

I didn't know you still had the Gflex. You've had it a looong time now. What do you like so much about it? I had those Eminence V12s in my XXL. They smoothed it out.

I'll have to check that boost out. Man both that H&K and Vox head will be around $800. I don't wanna pay that, cause I want a new guitar

I was looking at pickups today, and I've never tried the Dimarzio Titan or Illuminator. I also never tried the Duncan SH-5 Custom cause I heard it was mid scooped and bass heavy. I'm tired of the Distortion, maybe I'll try one of these next. And I still don't know what amp to get next.

I like the SH-5 Custom. It is kind of like that, but not in an annoying way. It is a chug machine. Think old White Zombie tones, since that is what he used. It has a good chuggy low end bass, then scooped lower mids, but then a ton of upper mids that give those metallic scraping palm mutes, and then a good amount of presence. It is bright with clarity, but the high end is not fuzzy like a Distortion.
It was one of my favorite Duncans until I got the Black Winters. Those are probably my favorite now. I currently have the Distortion, Custom, Black Winter, Invader, and Nazgul in guitars, lol.
I think the low end could bring some chug to your Strat, but then again, the presence may be too much. It can get very piercing in a bright guitar. I tried it in my Charvel, but didn't love it in that guitar, so I put the Invader in it. It is bright guitar, so the bassier pickup works.

The Gflex is just a big sounding cab. It comes close to sounding like a bigger 412 cab. It has a big low end, and smooth top end.... how I like it, lol. It is not great for a classic tone though. I prefer my Avatar 212 for more classic tones. I think it is closer to a Marshall style cab.

What do you like about the Black Winters? Arn't they like a more balanced EQ distortion?

Been looking at pickups, and found out some info on Duncan custom shop pups. The El Diablo is like a high powered Pearly Gates, with out all the high mids. The new George Lynch Hunter is pretty much a balanced Distortion, and the Alex Schonick is a JB with more presence and mid range punch. Exciting.

Played a bunch of modelling amps yesterday, and the Katana and Blackstar 1d seem to be the most user friendly. They also sounded good without tons of tweaking. The Mashall code had a hollow thin sound, and the Vox VTX needs online to get the decent amps. The Peavey Vyper Pro sounds good, but does way too much for me. I didn't care for any of the other amps. The other Voxs and Line 6 didn't do anything for me. And yes I'm gonna cheap out again
I just play for fun, so why blow all my money. I just want something decent that is fun to play with.

The Katana gets WAY better when you hook up the software and tweak it. Add an OD boost to tighten up the sound, and use the EQ to boost the low end and cut some mids and treble. All kinds of killer heavy sounds in there.

Yeah, you can dial in some pretty heavy modern stuff. Stock, it sounds like 80s rock and metal, but some boosts and EQ can make it more modern.
