I actually had teacher in Middle and High School tell me that i didn't need spelling tests because computers have spell check, and multiple math teachers tell that i'd never use any of the lessons they taught me in unless i was an engineer or physicist. So yea, that train on thought is real

Well I will say that I took Trigonometry and Calculus classes in high school and have yet to really apply them. Very rarely I get into some of that while programming. So I can kind of see what your teachers were saying if they were teaching more advanced math. Algebra 1, 2 and Geometry though - definitely use those commonly.

Its not about the actual course, its about the logical comprehension level. Can you grasp this level of math? Then these are the fields that open up to you.
