The new Randall cabs remind me of my old Boogie cabs, with the wicker grill. I've been out looking for a new amp, not sure what I'll get yet.

I don't really like the sound of any of the newer Randall SS and tube stuff. The new Satan and thrasher tube amps and the new RG's sound too modern to me, and are just way too different from the old 80's era stuff for me to warm up to. They don't sound like Randall's to me. Maybe i'm a bit biased, cause i've been a huge fan of the 80's Randall's for a long time now. A '86 rg100es is my main amp at the moment, and i'm currently looking for a rackmount rg100ht for a decent price... i really want a century 200 as well.

I'm on the Fence cause I love my 80s mid scoop sounds, but I also like the crushing modern sound. Try the Randall George Lynch 103 head and cab, that sounds more "old school" then their other tube amps.

GC used has a 1503H for $249.00, very tempted. Might wait awhile for a 3003 though. I am really torn between one of these and an old XXL head. Not sure which way to go.

You can get those 1503H heads for less than that. Our local one had one for $150 a couple weeks ago. I'd keep an eye out. They don't appear to have a set price for these yet.

I'm not sure what to get next either. I also like the Peavey XXL, and XL heads. I also like the new Peavey special combo. I would get a Dean Dime, but i'm scared it would only last a week. I've heard bad things, and their CS sucks ass. I don't wanna go back to tubes, cause I just don't need one again. Unless I try the whole band thing again.

My Studio pro 112 died a couple months ago. Great sounding clean channel. Prob why I am thinking Peavey again. The Blackstar ID really kinda fills that niche now, so I am really just searching for what I know I want. XXL and a 1503 or 3003.

How do you like the Blackstar? The demos sound pretty good. Thats probably the only modeling amp I would get.

On another note, I would like to try the Laney LV300 head, but nobody has Laney around me anymore.

All the YT demos suck. The new RG red channel is the exact same circuit as the 80's RGs. The blue channel is op-amp based instead of FET, which is why it sounds different.

On a related note, just got my 80's carpeted 1x12 in the mail. It's from the ultra rare Randall Hardrock stack, which was a full size version of the little Rockstack.

Those Dime amps surprised me, I used one that was at my practice space out of necessity one night, and it sounded really fucking good

This little 30-watt head has a killer XXX model, and some have commented that the 5150 model is even tighter than the real thing (ran through the power section of a real 5150 of course).

All the distortions are analog, solid state, which is why mentioned it. I think the XXX model ends up sounding similar to the XXL.

I had a Vyp, and a Vox VT series. Neither one comes close to the Blackstar ID series. To be honest the Vox to me had better sims than the Peavey. I tried everything and just could not get rid of the obvious over digitized sound. I loved the Studio 112 for cleans, distortion was meh. Yamaha THR10X was ok, after awhile though, unless I used the software to tweak, every model sounded the same to me.

The Vyp would have been the old series, including one of the heads. Not the new VIP series. Still to me, Blackstar kills them all in emulation.

if they had a lunchbox ID head or preamp pedal I'd pick one up.

Cool. I've always wondered about those 30 watters.

I'll have to try the Blackstar. I've heard a few great demos. I had a Line 6, and an old Johnson amp once, but didn't like either. To me, the Voxs always did the best distortions. But not enough to where I wanted to buy one. I was thinking last night, that an ISP victor head would rock, and the Randall Warhead X model that was out for a short time sounded great. I had the first Warhead stack, and it sucked balls. It just didn't sound that heavy. And there was a weird sound that I couldn't dial out. Maybe I had a bad one. It was returned a week later.

I had a Vetta one upgraded to a 2. Great amp, but too much tweaking. The old J-Station was good and still is for a small portable unit. A couple good tones in the old V-Amp Pro as well. Not many, but a couple. Still have a tone-port with all the model packs on my PC. Never use them.

I had a J station for awhile, I liked the Recto setting. The Line 6, and Johnson millinium were to much tweek machines. I had a few multi effects pedals, and they were the same way. I don't like having to tweek, just to get a good sound.

Ya, the origininal Warhead was a complete lemon. The Warhead X2 on the other hand is a great amp.

I wanted that Warhead, but I've never been about to find one. They must not a have made many. Hey guys, isn't the rule that you can plug a 4 ohm head into 8 or 16 ohm cab, and it just cuts watts? But you can't plug say a 16 ohm head into 8 or 4? Thats what i've always done.

SS amps can go with 4 ohm to 8 ohm or 16 ohm cab. But you will lose roughly half the wattage power each step, give or take... Going with a 16 ohm SS head into 8 ohm cab or 8 ohm into 4 ohm cab is a big no no.

Alright, cool. Thanks man. I think for a new amp i'm going to target the Randall G3+ and new RG line. Also the Blackstar ID amps. They seem to have more the sound I want.

The old Randall G3 series sound pretty good! but some had reliability issues with transformers and the amount of bass they put out was a LOT to control. The new RG line looks like a good alternative.

Yea, I was just reading about those problems. Then I guess its down to the new RGs, and the Blackstar. My GC has all those Blackstars, so I can demo them. Guess i'll have to try Samash for the Randalls. I will also give that new Peavey special a run.
