I think Randy's high stress playing was a better match for Ozzy's voice. Plus, Randy's riffing fucking slay's Iommi.
But I do love me some Sabbath.
Yeah, but Randy's tone is atrocious. I would rather listen to Iommi riffs versus Randy era. For solo stuff; Jake E. Lee all the way.

The first album is good, but pretty played out. It's never something I just put on Spotify for no reason.
I do love Iommi's tone, and can appreciate the influence on the modern bands that do it better. Plus modern bands don't have dumb assholes like Ozzy fucking Osborn.
I understand.
Much like Axl ruins G'n'R for me.
I completely understand the Axl hate. I grew up with GnR on constant rotation because I could only afford like an album every couple weeks as a kid
but I didn't grow up with Sabbath so coming in late didn't do Ozzy any favors. His voice kills it, kinda like Dave Matthews.

Yeah, I'm with you. I actually do love Iommi's early tone, and he is a master of riffing. I didn't like Randy's style, though I do have a ton of respect for his skill. Dude owned the guitar.

Yup, its weird how that works.
Except yeah, Dave Matthews, *shudder*

I actually kind of don't mind a Dave Matthews song or two. Maybe 3, if we had to push the issue. Chief Wiggum on vocals for the win
That's about as "Grateful Dead fan" as I get.

Nope. First song my guitar teacher ever taught me how to play was "Iron Man." I actually dove into Zeppelin's discography before I really started diving into Sabbath, but once I immersed myself in Sabbath, they had a much more profound influence on me than Zeppelin.
Ozzy's voice may have not been the greatest, even in his prime, but it was definitely unique. It fit the darkness of the band's music like a glove. The albums with Dio are fantastic as well.

They are the Godfathers of dark metal . They opened the door for every modern metal band that was not blues based like Zep . We would not have metal as we know it without them . You don't have to like it , I personally can't stand many influential and pioneering bands but they have their place in history and nothing can take that away from them , it's when we forget where it all started is when we have the problem .

Ok, see I went full on nuts for Zep. I studied everything Page did, learned a lot of Zep songs note for note, and one of my best accomplishments as a kid was playing The Rain Song perfectly.

Now Sabbath with Dio just doesnt do it for me.. But Dio with Rainbow(mainly the album "Rising") was bad ass.. Go figure.. I think Rising is one of the best albums from the 70's. Hell, of all time.. Just incredible album and Dio sounds fantastic.. But most other Dio projects or albums he is on I just dont get it..

I don't even know how to respond to this thread! LOL!
I was hoping you meant about Sabbath still touring. Zero fucks given and I would NOT pay to see them unless someone else is singing. As far as the original intent of the thread (outside pissing off GRIMESPACE)... FUCKING BLACK SABBATH INVENTED ELECTRICITY!!!! Metal would suck without them. Geezer and Ward are one of my all time favorite rhythm sections and every bit as awesome as Bonham and Jones. Yes, I actually believe that. Different areas of rock but good Lord, just listen to what Geezer and Ward have going on. Insanely thick, moving and effective.

Its not the songs so much as his voice. There are a number of his songs that I like, but hearing any one takes care of my Dave Matthews fix for a loooooong time.

I do still enjoy listening to some Zep from time to time. In fact, the more experimental/less blues-based songs such as "The Rain Song" are the songs I like best from their catalog. Sabbath's dark atmosphere just appealed to me more. Hearing "Children of the Grave" for the first time just sealed the deal for me.

^I'm with you on Geezer. LOVE his playing and tone. I am not so big on Ward. I would lean heavily towards Bonham in that race.

Ozzy ruined Sabbath for me. Just like CharvelDan ruined charvels, dans, les pauls, marshalls, and all Friedman products. I still think Dave Friedman is cute tho.

This is arguably the best track.off that album, so if you can't get into this then its prolly not for you. This is also the most epic but its just phenomenal to me. The rest if the songs are a little more straight up rock.

Listening to music is a full contact competition sport, bro. Get with the hate train and rip other people for their personal preferences

Race was probably the wrong term in retrospect
I just dig Bonham more

Dio sucked. Past tense, because he's dead af. You're getting up there in age too, isn't it about time you mosey on down the dusty trail? Take Ozzy with you.
