Srsly. What should one listen to if one hates Whitesnake that wants to "get" John Sykes. I know he's a ripper; but I am always put off by my expectations of what I think it's going to sound like. Seems like an odd fit for DBN until I remember he is an 80's KISS fan

I had the pleasure seeing Blue Murder open for Billy Squier. I left as soon as Blue Murder were done.

This is exactly why no one should ever speak ill about the 1980's.

My takeaway from this video is that drum kits with two bass drums are badass, and it makes me resent the invention of the double kick pedal.

"What should one listen to?"

Listens to song performed in the video

Proceeds to understand.

Starts out with some Pet Shop Boys vibe then into a driving hair metal/80s action film mash up (by virtue by actually being there at the time) tune. Good stuff.

Great band. John Sykes could've been huge coming out of Whitesnake's 1987 album, but IMHO he made a miscalculation when he decided to be the singer. He's a good singer but in the 80's you couldn't be the lead singer and lead guitar player. Every band that tried that only achieved moderate success... Y&T, Blue Murder, Triumph, Giant you name it, that format was mostly rejected by the mainstream hard rock scene of that decade. Singer playing rhythm guitar or bass, sure.. but lead guitar/singer didn't work at all for that musical style, fans wanted the Roth/EVH or Tyler/Perry type of creative dynamic/tension
