Word. That album will still hold the test of time many years to come.
Great album. Great songs. Great musicians. One of the 1990's greatest oferings, that will STILL be regarded as one of the best bands in rock music EVER. Even without Layne, AIC will never be "has beens". True legends.

soooooooooooo good. if i ever got my fish sounding that good i would die a happy man, dude has crazy skills.
Re: Alice in Chains' "Dirt" never ceases to amaze me
Being a guitar player aside..I find others in that band, as phonomenal as I do Jerry. Vox..bass.. and Sean's drumming. ALL of those guys were monster musicians. Not a weak link to be found. STELLAR musicianship & great sounds from ALL. ALL of them have skills that are hard to pull off. I used to play with a drummer who was big into AIC. He'd drive himself NUTS trying to copy alot of Sean's drum stuff.

Still possibly the bleakest, darkest album ever to go multi-platinum.
"If there was only a way that I couldn't even any less than I already can't then I'd gladly not, but I think I've entered some quantum paradox, dark matter levels of can't evening where the total absolute value of not evenness exceeds all ability to explain the can'ting." - MR RUBATO

What all did Jerry use on that album ?
Hard to believe that Dirt came out that long ago.
Goddamn, we're getting old lol.

Dirt never ceases to amaze me either. On a related note I've recently gone back to Degradation Trip after taking about 3 years off from it. Talk about bleak, lol, but I love that one too. I still need to get the expanded version.

That's right. I knew there was some modded Marshall. I'd forgotten about that. Wasnt sure who's mod it was though. I knew it wasnt a Jose or a Friedman. I think that amp has made it onto a few Jerry recordings.
Either way, Jerry'd still kill with a bone stock 800 and a few pedals. Dude's always got a monster tone that really comes out with his technique. Especially live. Live AIC & solo Jerry stuff ALWAYS sounds amazing.

I think I'll go back & listen to some Alice this week. I'll probably be on the road tomorrow & have a 5 hr drive by myself, so I'll be listening to Alice on the way to Alabama.
Even with the heavy radio play the singles from that album still get, they still hold true. Just as amazing as the first time i heard them when i was 15

Re: Alice in Chains' "Dirt" never ceases to amaze me
after 'speed metal'/'thrash' and 'grindcore', AIC got me listening to 'slow' music again.
also they were too good to be lumped in with 'grunge'.

This.
AIC should get ALOT more credit for "the 1990's" than they do. They done more for music than Nirvarna did. True..Nirvana played a big part in killing off 80's hairspray douchebaggery..but in a musical sense, they wrent shit compared to Jerry & Co.

There were some reports that Cantrell used a Mesa too.
Bottom line is: Jerry's the man.

Of the four big bands that came out of the Seattle area in the early 90's, Alice in Chains, IMO, were FAR and away the best. It's not even remotely close. I love a lot of Soundgarden's stuff, but AiC >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Soundgarden.
Depending on taste
I will explain, now where my head is I agree with you.
10 yers ago I would have said soundgarden.20 years ago I would have said Nirvana.
I agree about then being outstanding musicians but I never judge music on how someone plays but how good the song is, this is why I don't like and will never like dream theater.
But whatever dirt is a great album that has stood the test of time. I am sad to say some albums from the era have not.
Would is decently in my top ten best songs.

True. I like Soundgarden, but Alice curb stomps Soundgarden any day of the week.
