it's coming together really nice.... are those pres based on anything in particular or their own thing? The closest I'm going to get in to pres at home is turning on the 4K mode on my SSL lol

Thanks man! I am more excited aboutt this shit than amps right now.
I actually called Tonelux and asked. Obviously since Paul Wolff was such as strong influence on design and release of stuff for API, including the 512, 550, etc and consoles too.
The MP5A's are absolutely 512 based, however I guess Paul thought the top end needed to be sorted. Apparently he thought it was a bit to hairy/harsh when pushed. They developed their own transformers/OP Amps, etc. They obviously added the Tilt EQ which is fantastic for quick adjustments when tracking.
One thing I keep hearing is that the compressor is something to really dig into and is one of the most complex/robust ones on the market. Here's some pointers I got from a dude about it.
"You just got yourself one of the most versatile Comps ever built. In fact it is so versatile that its kinda hard to dial in a great sound when you first start using it.
Some hints offhand:
The output knob is dented at 12h for na particular reason at all. The make up up gain will be a 0dB when all the way to the left. The dent is around +6dB to my memory and therefore an adequate starting point, if you are going to compress 6dB average - which is actually a lot.
The Tonelux is the only comp to my knowledge that can go evenly from Feedforward to Feedback detection. Paul took this from his very own API 2500, which could be set to either "0ld" (Feedback) or "new" Feed Forward. So in designing the TX he had to top this and designed in so it can be dialled evenly from one to the other. Feedback and Feed Forward is about detection. Just remember, FB is found in 1176s and sounds fuller and has more vibe to it.
FF is found in SSLs and dbx's and has that "snap" that both comps are famous for.
As a very rough rule of thumb:
FF will address your consonants, FB will aim for you vowel sounds.
Last:
Remember the TILT Eq is in the Sidechain only. When turned all the way to the right, set to FF, fast attack and release the TX becomes a great De-Esser.
Set the type to FB 100%, Ratio 8:1, slowish attack, fast-ish Release it will resemble an 1176.
Just an example how you can stretch this thing:
When recording vocal set the Type to 1/3 FF and 2/3 FB, or 40/60 something. Again a good starting point. Remember to ignore the output dent and set it far left.
Set the WET / DRY far right."

The features on the compressor are pretty impressive... the side chain patch bay is really cool and it's ability to "over compress" sounds like it would be helpful with slide guitar. Slide needs A LOT of compression and you lose pick attack... from their website's description, over compressing should bring back a bit of attack without sounding too sharp.
From their website:
"In addition to the FB-FF Type control, the TX5C has the ability to over compress with the RATIO control, which allows compression ratios from 1.5:1 to 20:1, and then beyond, with the “OVER:” ratio settings that cause the compressor to reduce the gain at a higher ratio than the gain is going into it. This means that the ratio control allows the compressor to compress an increase in signal of 10dB with a gain reduction of up to -8dB. If the signal goes up 10dB, the output will go DOWN 8dB.
This becomes useful when taking a pre compressed snare and by adjusting the Attack, and setting the Ratio in the OVER:area, you can actually recover the initial impact peak of the snare. This, with the MIX control, can then be blended back with the original “flat” snare and you now have a dynamic snare again, but with a very controlled peak."

Nice!
They’re the highest in my GAS list. Also the Neve 5211 and RND 542’s. Oh... and still the Wesaudio Prometheus! Lol.
