Mic Shootout Website - Grand Opening - Still no dynamic mics

Post by ajaxlepinski »

A few months ago, one of the GGFbros posted a link to the Audio Test Kitchen, mic shootout website: https://www.audiotestkitchen.com/
It was a cool website but, they didn't have any dynamic mics, like the SM57, SM7B, EV RE20, or even classic condensors like the SM81 - at the time, the site was only being demo'd and they were still working on it.

Today, I received an email announcing the grand opening of their website.... still no dynamic mics.

I'm sure I wasn't the first, but I sent them an email, suggesting that they add dynamic mics to the choices offered.
The reply:
Hi,

Thanks for the message! This first module is focused on LDCs that are currently available in the market, so it doesn't include used and vintage mics or the many dynamics, SDCs, ribbons, etc. That said, we did capture the 57, 58 and SM7B to provide as references, but we haven't released them yet as we wanted to make clearer to new users that this is just the LDC-focused module (probably will release within a month). I wish we would have added the RE20 and the 421 for that purpose as well, since also good touchpoints. Appreciate the feedback!

Here is the screenshot of the frequency responses for several inexpensive mics and a very expensive Sony mic.
Yup.... I will never buy a mic that cost more than $800!!!
