Soooo... Freekin awesome!
Really great showman, no clams, lotsa fog, good sound.
I'll post pics from the computer later.
30?! Marshall 4 holers onstage, full stack side monitor. Good mix cause HOB was behind the board
Varied show, way more classical stuff than anticipated , both on electric, and like 4 whole songs on accoustic.
All the kicks and "magic hands" flourishes, guitar spins, hes a little puffy, but rawked his old ass off
he's into it, good at it, And the crowd fucking loved it. Great feelin show, bravo.
The GF verdict?..... She now loves YM! Lol, she ate it up! She loved all the classical feel of the songs, and she's an actress so she knows a good performance when she sees one. The Foundation room upstairs is the shit as well, chicks in gstrings dancin on the bar.... Good bday!

horrible mix, like you can't hear the backing tracks, gawdawful tone, and ridiculous playing (not the good kind) only without the ridiculous stage antics to distract from the ridiculous playing. I'm not a huge Yngwie fan or anything, but it did hurt my feelings to see this.
And he did do some ridiculous stage antics -- he did the swing-the-guitar-around-my-body-like-a-hula-a-hoop and play-the-guitar-with-my-teeth moves.

Yeah, it sucked. But clearly he just wanted it louder.

Does he take himself seriously or does he know he's, for all intents and purposes, turned into a parody and is just milking it? He absolutely reeks of Spinal Tap.

I saw him in '88, I think it was the Odissey tour... dude was NO JOKE back then, incredible tone and control. I still want that to be my last memory of seeing him live so I won't go to any of shows now.

Re: Yngwie-Los Angeles-tonight-anyone going?
Did he have some kind of surgery? His face looks slightly strange in those pictures
Re: Yngwie-Los Angeles-tonight-anyone going?
I saw him 7 times in the 80's , opened for Triumph , MSG , Maiden on and on... Always sounded good .

I imagine he still rocks, but I would have liked to see him around that time too. If I had the time and extra cash I'd definitely go, despite certain manner of ridiculousness. I have respect for Yngwie and he was one of the first guitarists to thoroughly blow my mind with technical skill.

Fat Yngwie still does all the same stage antics of skinny Yngwie. It is worth the price of admission.

Re: Yngwie-Los Angeles-tonight-anyone going?
Love him or hate him, it is impossible to not have fun at an Yngwie show.
That is, unless you forget ear plugs. Yngwie rocks it out old school, and that shit is LOUD!!

Re: Yngwie-Los Angeles-tonight-anyone going?
He posed with me in a picture once at NAMM many years back. It's a terrible thing to say, but had he died in the '90s he would be revered today.
And those Ferraris, I think they're 308s or GTOs or whatever. They're pretty cool before they started getting big like the 360s and 430s.
I don't particularly care for his music, but at the risk of sounding like a TGPer, he's got pretty good tone, especially when you consider the era when he was big. I believe it was mostly neck pickup on a Strat through a Marshall. How can you go wrong?

Questions for those that have seen him on this tour.
Does he have an opening act?
About how long is the show?
Should I take ear plugs?
I'm taking my son to see him next week in St. Louis which is a couple of hours away. I'm trying to figure out how to rearrange my work schedule.
Thanks

Is that a joke?
Yes you should bring earplugs, especially for your son. He will def be *loud*. I bring earplugs with me to every show though, don't always need them but I find those hifi hearos really don't ruin the sound like foam earplugs. And always is nice to not have a headache/ringing ears after a show but I'm around loud music way too much and have no doubt lost some hearing as is.

I saw him in 1986 or 1987 on the Trilogy tour. I think he was opening for Quiet Riot but I can't quite remember. Turnout was really low so I ended up about 6 feet from the stage. Despite the circumstances he put on a great show and still managed to stuff every Marshall he owned onto the small stage. As an added bonus Jeff Scot Soto was on vocals which I did not know until he walked on the stage. All in all a mind blowing experience for a kid guitar player growing up in the 1980s.

I saw Yngwie in 1983 in a SMALL Club in Boston that's no bigger than your living room. Yng had (2) 50wt FULL Stacks, daisy-chained, and full tilt/wide open. I know, I could see the control levels from where i was standing.
So, should you take ear plugs? Donno ... when was the last time you stood in front of two wide-open Full Stacks?
j/k -- for your Son, they are a must!!
Re: Yngwie-Los Angeles-tonight-anyone going?
Will take earplugs.
I took him to see Vai a few months ago in a small venue and the volume was just right.

Yngwie has almost become a parody of himself, himself. Which is awesome. Full circle, circle.
