Re: SS Posse
I really like these new strips like Mooer and Valeton have out. I like having the effects all seperate. If I like the Dapper dark, I might get a 4x12 cab, and a Quilter power amp. I have cats, so I will need a cab with a metal grill lol.

I just use the effects return of my Randall RD-1. It's only 1 watt, but it's tube and it adds a little something. It's also an instrument level loop so you can technically use any distortion as a preamp.

Re: SS Posse
One of the rigs I’m rocking these days is a Randall RG100 HT/Furman PQ6, so I gues I can join the Posse!
Love me some Dime tones and that is exactly what I am doing with this rig

I just have that 1x12 acoustic lead amp still. Figured it was time to get some distortion.Statutory Gape wrote:I just use the effects return of my Randall RD-1. The RD-1 is the cheapest and most effective tube power amp you can get. And it's a great sounding amp by itself.
Have you seen these from Hotone? Two channels, 75W power section, all in a pedal. I asked them if they were going to make one based on their Friedman clone 5W head I posted a few pages back. Looks like it's a possibility.
Re: SS Posse
Yea, I saw the Hotones. Its a great idea.

Re: SS Posse
Patiently waiting on my Crate GX130C combo, it'll be here Monday. I have a pair of Mesa Black Shadows to put in it.
I also was able to score a foot switch for it off of Ebay. I want to try it with the internal speakers and a 4x12, should be sick.

Re: SS Posse
I never got to play that Crate, or the Ampeg VH140.

Man that Ampeg is so good for metal. My friend has one and I love it. Have never go to run through my cab which would solve the only minute issue I had. There was a low end frequency I didn't like. Bet my cab or an EQ would have easily solved. Would not mind having one of those ampegs.
Never played the crate myself. I have owned a few Crate but not that one. I had the Stealth, GX-900h and GX-2200h.
Re: SS Posse
Well I got the Dapper Dark today. Not bad for $99. Its small and compact, smaller then I thought it would be. The chorus and delay sound great. The distortion is pretty heavy, with nice clearity. The tuner is not as good as my Korg, but I really don't care about it. And i'm not a fan of the boost. It seems to make the sound muddy. Overall it will be fun to play with

Re: SS Posse
It's a typical clean boost. Not good for metal. The Mooer has a modified TS circuit as a boost.
Re: SS Posse
Yea, the boost is kinda useless. I give it and the tuner a blah.
Re: SS Posse
Since I like preamp pedals for distortion, I think i'll get rid of the acoustic amp, and just get a used tech 21 PE.

The Power Engine doesn't have an ideal speaker.

Re: SS Posse
Really digging this GX130C. It's a lot of amp for the price of a pedal.
Re: SS Posse
So the GX is working out? Thats cool. I got some extra money, so I took back the Dapper, and i'm getting rid of the acoustic lead amp. I need to quit being a cheap bastard, and get a nice amp again. Or atleast a decent modelling amp. I just can't be happy with distortion anymore!!! I also need to kick out the Duncan Distortion, and go back to the EVO. Thats always been my favorite pickup. Of course GC was out of the EVO when I was up there. They always just have the Tonezone and Super distortion. I'm going to have to have another 4x12 cab. I don't need it, but I can't seem to be happy with less OK, rant over

Re: SS Posse
Can't believe this one slipped by. Laney IRT Studio SLS.
This one is a lot smaller than the other Studio and has a 300W SS power section.

Ola's demos have improved dramatically since he started doing them real time like everyone else.

Hey, Long time no see! I lurk this board enough, I figure I might as well make an account here, lol.
One of my favorite "decent priced" SS amp is the Boss Katana head. It is amazing for what it is, into 212 cabs. It doesn't sound amazing in the store, but once you dial in the software, you can get some amazing sounds out of it. Even though I have a ton of gear, I play my Katana all the time at home.
Re: SS Posse
Dude, whats up? You still love 7 stringers? I don't know what i'm going to get yet. I don't play in a band, so I don't need to go nuts lol. I do want a 4x12. So that and something. Lots of people do love the Katana. I played one in the store, and it wasn't bad. Neither was the Marshall code. But the code seems to have bugs to work out. I think the best one is probably the Peavey Vypyr pro. They need to make a head. We'll see

I do still have two 7 strings, but I haven't been playing them as much the last few years. I got two PRS SEs that I have been playing the most the last year or two.
I don't play in a band either, but all the best stuff is bigger, lol. The Katana is cool because it has the .5w, 50w, 100w knob, so you can dial it in to whatever volume you need. I also have a Triple Rectifier, and an Axe-FX II with a Matrix GT1000FX power amp, and switch around all the time between them.
Re: SS Posse
Damn, you have some nice stuff. I just have my Strat, a Aria Acoustic guitar and a banjo lol. I was given the banjo, so it just hangs on the wall. I mostly just practice on the acoustic. I sold everything else to get a new amp, but been too lazy to buy anything
