Hello From St. Louis

Post by JeffRadford »

First time checking out the Board and Forum and looking forward to it.

Singer/songwriter who's been slowly, but surely getting in to the guitar playing world from St. Louis.

http://www.jeffradford.com

Have a question regarding the following, below. If there would be a good place to post in the forum and you feel kind enough to direct a newbie, I'd surely appreciate it. :)

Thanks!

-Jeff

Dumb question - want to use my television to stream music/video for YouTube tutorials, wood shedding, etc. but when it’s on, creates an unwanted hum in my Vox AC30 - any suggestions on how to get fix/get rid of the buzz?

Welcome to the fold brother! This is the best guitar/amp forum on the interwebznet!!!! :rawk:

I predict you will shortly be blessed with a plethora of suggestions.

Is your TV plugged into the same wall socket at your Vox?
If so, try plugging into separate outlets that are on different circuit breakers.

There are wall adapters that will help eliminate hum and also more expensive power conditioners.
There was a post, a few months ago about this. Maybe one of the guy will be able to post a link.

Good luck!!!

EDIT: Here is a link to the wall adapter. Don't know if it will work for you but, it could be worth a try:

Welcome Jeff. Great music btw. Very pro performance and production.

As for your question, you will need to isolate the amp. I've found that the EB Tech Hum-X is great for that and never record my amp without it.

Thanks for the warm wishes everyone!

@ajaxlepinski - Different outlets on different walls. Only hums with the television on. Turn off television, no humming.

@GRIMESPACE - I believe we still buzz with the guitar unplugged, but I'll double check.

@GuitarBilly - Thanks for the ideas. Same thing Alex said I needed.

Keep rocking, dudes!

So - Actually did some controlled variables here -

1. TV on VOX AC30 on - right next to it? - NO Hum.
2. TV on VOX AC30 on cable plugged in (Mogami) - NO Hum. (Save grounding by touching the tip of the cable, duh.)
3. TV on VOX AC30 on cable plugged in (Mogami) and Fender Strat plugged in? - YES Hum.

Thoughts?

Doesn't seem to me that this is a circuit/outlet condition, however what do I know? :)

So you guys think there's any way around the hum or is it a result of the single coil and nothing to alleviate it?

Thanks! I'm a newbie to the electronics piece of all this.

yes always some noise with single coils unless you get a noiseless set. I like the DiMarzio Area series. They sound great and are dead quiet.
