I actually can't remember Rushmore. Was it Schwartzman or just the whole d@mn thing?

I was responding to the saying, "that's my Rushmore." Whole rest of the world seems to think Mt. Rushmore is some grand wonder, when us South Dakota people all know it's just a pile of rocks that some bozos with chisels and dynamite spent too much time worrying over.

Never mind that it was blasted out of the sacred Black Hills by white folk to make big assed images of other white folk... :cop:

Oh, but that Crazy Horse Statue is gonna be . . .

. . .a never ending waste of money.

I don't know what it is about South Dakotans and wanting to waste time blowing up big rocks. I mean, I've been bored before, but never THAT bored.

Guess it hasn't been completed since I was there in 2000, huh?

No. They started it in like 1948 or some shit, and they don't even have a loose idea of when things will happen, let alone when it will be finished. They have that fancy little model of what it's supposed to look like, and like, some of his face done. Good progress for sixty some years of work.

Rock Lobster was not played on a 6 string guitar. Whaling out the rhythm is a lot easier if you don't have to worry about hitting the D & G strings.
There was a reason that photo of the Mosrite, on their first album, only had 4 strings.

As far as Black Sabbath goes, I doubt very much that, any of you gentlemen (Dave included) can listen to this song without your head starting to bob and a light coming to your eyes.
Love this song!!!! :rawk: :rawk: :rawk: :rawk: :rawk:

Interesting, but the dude sure needs to work on his playing. Needs to amplify, too. And don't tell Dave, but I do have a copy of that song in my iTunes library :shh:

Now, on to more important things...

If I had to rate all my favorites, and could only have one, this would be it. So simple, so catchy, such awesome tone, attitude, and energy. My fav solo of all time, and yeah, I know it's been overplayed and its just a simple little tune. It's my song, and I'm keeping it.

Also, the story goes that Iommi hated those Orange amps. Never used 'em for studio recording. They were brought in (rentals?) just for that film. I'm pretty sure he stayed with Laney clear up to the rebirth with Dio in '79/'80 when he toyed with Marshall and then Boogie for a bit.

And, after listening to that live studio version again, I have to put this one here, with the original recorded tones intact. Love the light fuzz going on, and especially the effect going on the doubled solo (ring modulator?). Geezer's got a killer fucking way of playing that is so perfect here. Drums are a steamroller, and Ozzy's effected voice is perfect for this tune. Fuck the hate.

Awesome vid clip about Iommi loosing the two fingertips on his fretting hand just as Sabbath was getting started.

And, in case you never saw Iommi with an LP, check out this video - it's set right to the start of the heavily edited solo, so you can just hit play and you won't have to hear / see Ozzy sing all the verses (especially for you, Dave :x )

Black Sabbath is synonymous with me having an interest in guitar. My first year in High School I met guys in my neighborhood who were beginner and novice level guitarists and that was when I caught the bug. Black Sabbath riffs were the very first ones I ever sat down to try to learn. Master of Reality was my first Sabbath album.

When it comes to riff writing styles and philosophies Iommi is #1 in my book.
