I play in one of the more extreme bands on this board.. I listen to a wide variety of music, which includes some of the darkest heaviest shit on the planet.. And I would take Rock Lobster over Dio fronted Sabbath! No joke..

Sometimes metal fans can be painfully closeminded and think no other music offers purity and enjoyment.. I personally couldnt write a B52 song, but there is actually some quality in some of their songs.. I got no problem saying that.. They actually embodied Sex, drugs and rock n roll.. Especially in their earlier years.. I get off on that more Dio's Dungeons and dragons.. Although, like I said, I like him in Rainbow "Rising"..

And Sabbath is still pretty much flawless with Ozzy. Technical Ecstasy is a bit of weird one, but basically all the rest are never TOO far away from finding its way into my 6 dsic changer in the car.. In fact, Vol iV is in there now..

I really like the 2 Sabbath/Dio studio albums. It was a phenomenal restart of a band that was completely out of gas, but unfortunately crapped out the minute the honeymoon was over (can't stand to listen to Dio covering earlier songs on Live Evil and Born Again was a serious disappointment to me).

Ozzy, too, benefitted from the break by joining up with Randy Rhoads for 2 killer albums.

Godfathers, all

Don't listen, Dave - too much awesome heaviness for you :D

Dehuminizer is ok, but nothing I ever listen to. The 2 classic albums they did post-Ozzy were their best collaboration, imo.

Dio with Rainbow was stellar

Even like first two DIO albums (RJD's solo band) :bring:

I saw the Dehumanizer tour. With Exodus opening, actually. RJD is awesome as far as his ambassador status for metal but I would always pick the other, iconic trad-metal singers over him. By a mile. Vivian Campbell was awesome fwiw. In Dio :cop: The music was always too plodding in all the wrong (aka non Iron Maiden) ways.

GREAT  album :hi5:

I listened to that a while back and forgot they had incorporated some 80s production cliches here and there. Like they were trying to incorporate Owner Of a Lonely Heart or something. That being said I love the album overall and just got the live dvd from the Perfect Strangers tour.

I went to the event at Pacific Ampitheater in Nov 1992, which was originally to have been Sabbath (with Dio, touring Dehumanizer) basically opening for Ozzy at his final "retirement show". Dio wouldn't have any of it and quit the band the night before. Vinnie Appice stayed, and they called Rob Halford in to take over for Dio. Was FUCKING amazing. Luckily, there's video of that available.

Ozzy did his set after that. Don't remember much except Zakk shouting how this "retirement" was all bullshit and that Ozzy would be right back (he was right, obviously).

Then, the original 4 came out and ran through the big 'hits': Black Sabbath, War Pigs, Iron Man, and Paranoid. It was their first time together since Live Aid in '85 and only second time since the breakup in '78. Was very cool for me - while I was completely burned out on those songs by that time, getting to see my first major fav band was amazing, especially since the feud during the '80s kept them apart for so long.

Haven't watched this yet - just discovered it...
