I also love ABBA , actually I went from ABBA to Mr. Cash right to Sabbath , Ozzy , Maiden, Zep & Jimi , pretty much in that order . I'm also stuck there and don't want to leave

Are we having a competition for troll thread of the year? This has to be in the running...
I am by no means a metal guy, but I absolutely love Black Sabbath. I think they are on par with Zep, Floyd, the Dead and other bands that seemed like they were from a different plane of existence, another planet, or a different era in time. Sabbath was clearly from the depths of Hell.
One of my favorites, love all the changes in this one. I tease this bassline a bunch in my trio.

^Itchy, that's what I am talking about. Sabbath are very dynamic. I think the casual dude thinks Iron Man and that's it. A lot more to be uncovered in their repertoire.

I'm similar, but had stints with Priest, ZZ Top, Van Halen, Rush, Scorpions, Accept, ad a few others before getting heavy into Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeath, Motorhead, and Slayer for the 2nd half of the 80s.

No shit. Just try coming up for air after being crushed by the heaviness of Vol4 for the first time.

I actually can't remember Rushmore. Was it Schwartzman or just the whole d@mn thing?
I was responding to the saying, "that's my Rushmore." Whole rest of the world seems to think Mt. Rushmore is some grand wonder, when us South Dakota people all know it's just a pile of rocks that some bozos with chisels and dynamite spent too much time worrying over.

I think it's safe to say this is a failed troll thread of the year. Seems to be more of a positive than a negative. At least to me - I'm enjoying the hell out of it

I knew there was more to you than Morrisey, Greg
I love how that Hand of Doom bassline blends right into Rat Salad (here's a live version with lead-in bassline, because its fucking awesome) on the album

I think it's like the Beatles.
Younger people hear them nowdays and think it's ok, or not for them...
But if you experienced the impact they had at the time and how great they were compared to all the other music that existed at the time and you have a totally different perspective.
Also, music has an emotional/nostalgic connection with most people.

Funny enough I'm actually listening to the Beatles right now. I fucking LOVE the Beatles.
Lbr, I really just don't like Ozzy. Or the later Sabbath albums. Or Dio.

I do like REM Monster!
The rest of their stuff kinda blows...
Unlike the rest of GAB I actually listen to new music because I'm not stuck in a rut in the past. Y'all enjoy reliving your "prime" from the 70's. I'm still peaking, bitches

I always enjoy the butthurtz when someone gets revved up when you're hating on REM and says something stupid like they're more punk than any other punk band ever because they did their own thing and that's what punk is.
Then you reply, "sure, but they sound like fucking pussies."
And they just go full-blown .

Megalomania is awesome, but so radio unfriendly, and Oz couldn't do the vox justice live at all (see Soundboard Tapes from 1975)
I love the increasing intensity of the repeating guitar riffs on that song. There's some kind of phaser or something that builds for each verse.

I really don't consider any Sabbath tune "radio friendly"
Yeah, it's a shame about the soundboard tapes. The band is just killing it, and ozzy........well.....not so much.
Have you heard the demos from Born Again ? they are sooooo much better than the final output.
Speaking of which, there's another great singer that was in Sabbath (Ian Gillan). but Mave probably thinks he sucks too
Ima just drop this here.

They are in fact giant fucking pussies. Michael Stipe especially.
Re: Does anyone else not care about Black Sabbath at all?
Yeah, Stipe pretty much redefined gaffotry.
That doesn't change the fact Ozzy fucking sucks.
