Those early albums with Ozzy and RJD are awesome. Never cared for the recent Ozzy-fronted Sabbath, let's face it, Ozzy can't sing like he used to. The later ones with RJD (Heaven and Hell albums) are solid.

Sabbath wasn't blues based? Hell they started as a blues rock band. But I see what you're saying, I'm just being argumentative. :cop:

I like old school Sabbath but I will reach for ZZ Top's first album before I reach for Sabbaths. Fairies Wear Boots is a kick ass song though. I've always wanted to cover it live.

I was hoping you meant about Sabbath still touring. Zero fucks given and I would NOT pay to see them unless someone else is singing. As far as the original intent of the thread (outside pissing off GRIMESPACE)... FUCKING BLACK SABBATH INVENTED ELECTRICITY!!!! Metal would suck without them. Geezer and Ward are one of my all time favorite rhythm sections and every bit as awesome as Bonham and Jones. Yes, I actually believe that. Different areas of rock but good Lord, just listen to what Geezer and Ward have going on. Insanely thick, moving and effective.

All this

Exactly or Zep , reach for rockin Blues if you want rockin blues . I guess all rock started as blues based but some sounds like it more than others .

Sabbath were much better song writers than soo many bands after them , even today . I mean the song , lyrics , melodies etc etc . That is what set Kurt Cobain apart as well , interesting , fresh lyric content . My songs usually go , let me stick in you girl , repeat , and solo and repeat .

I'm a huge Zep fan too, but I don't think you can really compare Sabbath or Zep to anybody.
There are a few Mt Rushmore "rock" musicians I'll never talk shit about or compare to anyone else.

Jimi
Sabbath (only Ozzy era, fuck Dio)
AC/DC (Bon Scott era)
Zep
ZZ Top
Randy Rhoads
SRV
The Ramones
The Clash
Dick Dale

Probably forgetting a few

I'm pretty good with this list. There's a few other's I'd add, but I'll keep that for me.

I'd actively listen to Zep and the Ramones ( )from that list and that's it. The Clash and Dick Dale don't belong on there imo. The Ramones probably don't either but I love them so they get a pass :D

I'm sure both bands would attribute at least some of their success to Sabbath

I've grown out of metal quite a bit over the years. There are still several bands that I can listen to regularly but the bulk of metal is not something I care to try listening to anymore. Nonetheless, there will ALWAYS be metal elements to my playing and you absolutely gotta give it up to Sabbath for paving those roads.
