Aspiring young solderhead here..
Greetings, folks. I like noise and making stuff and making noise and stuff. I don't have a ton of experience beyond some luthiery education (an intensive but concise semester course on drafting, fabrication, repair, and maintenance) and about 5 lazy years of experiential education on modding and fixing various guitars and pedals. At this point in my life (22-year-old babby) I've realized that while I can handle a soldering iron and multimeter pretty well and perform any kind of basic maintenance on a stringed instrument or guitar pedal, my real passion is for the electronic side of things, especially amps. At this point I've decided if I'm going to start building my skills for real and making sweet circuits, I should get my hands wet talking to some people who will share their experience and wisdom. So uh, \m/ and whatnot. Let's nerd out.

Check out my Jet City amp thread (see my signature) - it's full of tips and tricks for modding those amps, which are very inexpensive (especially on the used market), and relatively straightforward to mod. There's also a ton of YouTube stuff that'll tell you how to work on 'em.
And Ajax is right - there are extremely high voltages (400-500v) in tube amps that'll kill you. In many of them, power is stored even with the cord unplugged. Don't fuck around in there until you know how to safely discharge the filter caps.

Your thread is what brought me here, good sir! I've already posted in there so I'll be seeing you on the flop. Thanks for the warm welcomes though, they're much appreciated. I promise I won't use the russian roulette method of finding voltage in my caps
