Re: Hello
Welcome to the fold brother.
This is the best guitar/amp forum on the interwebznet!!!
What's your favorite amp mods?
I have a Hiwatt DR103 clone that I'd like to add a bit of natural OD to. Any suggestions?

Re: Hello
I really Like Internal Noise Gate/Clipping Circuit mods, compression+attack mods, warmth/clarity and sustain mods....etc...etc
For the Hiwatt clone, have you tried the superfet jack? this thing can produce a very warm to full blown....crazy OD tone

that sounds pretty interesting - anyone have any first hand experience with this thing?
I could see installing it in the low input on the 'bass' channel of my JTM45 - and turning it into a channel switcher via an ABY switch.
With the separate gains, it probably could be balanced out pretty well with the normal channel.

yes sir i do have first hand experience with this, i own 3 of them. works just fine in a jtm45
good way to think about it....if you tap into pin 7 of the 1st valve's input stage.....your jtm45 will sound like a JVM410's OD1 or OD2 channel (more Gain then youll ever need)
i personally tap into pin 2.....sounds warmer

Re: Hello
hmmmmm......interested even more now.
Where did you install yours?
It doesn't overdrive the gain/volume control to the point where it becomes unusable?

i use mine with a couple relays and a footswitch....which is alittle harder to hook up
you have 4 input jacks on the jtm45, 2 input jacks per channel
take out 1 of those input jacks and replace it with the superfet, this way the other input jack still allows you to hear the channel without the superfet.
and yes you can overdrive the front input stages to the point where they are no longer....playable, the documentation that comes with the superfet explains all this, however if this happens....you reduce the internal gain pot on the superfet which takes care of this problem
it really depends if you choose to put a grid leak on the superfet
the grid leak is the 1 meg resistor from ground to input signal, thats commonly found on the input jack. for the superfet jack....you DONT wanna use a grid leak.
now if you add this superfet and find that you get alittle more floor noise then normal.
This is the noise gate schematic found inside of the peavey JSX......it can be re-modded for the JTM 45
