Why is GarageBand having trouble keeping up here???

Post by Benellerguitars »

Hey! Okay, so I have a brand new decked out iMac. 16GB ram, one terabyte hard drive. Comes with GarageBand of course. I am a total noob to all this, and I am recording basic stuff. Frequently, during playback, it will stop playing and a message comes up saying there are too many real instrument tracks for real time playback. It's not like I'm doing anything wild here, I don't think. Here an example of a track setup I have that keeps locking up:
-high hats w/ distortion, EQ, and reverb.
-snare with "
-kick with "
-cow bell with reverb
(all the aforementioned drums are software instruments using the GarageBand samples)
-bass with EQ
-guitar with a Lapou amp sim, LeCab, and IR's
-another guitar with the same setup
-vocal track with reverb, distortion, and EQ.
So 8 tracks, each with a few effects and compression. That doesn't seem like much to me. Especially considering GarageBand is set up to work with 64 tracks of audio! What gives here? I feel like if I spent this much on a computer, it ought to be able to handle 8 tracks of audio right? Help!

Macs have built in 'good taste' detectors. Disable this track and see how you go.
