WGS Invader 50

Post by GuitarBilly »

Just got one today for a 1x12. 4ohm impedance.
It sounds really good. Like a Greenback but with a bigger bass response. Tighter too.
I tried it with my Marshalls, Koch and Hughes and Kettner Ampman. It sounded great with all of them.
Guitars:
'78 Les Paul Pro / '89 SG Special/ '04 Gibson Les Paul Classic 3 pickup / Jackson Star/ Endres Tele / Fernandes Rhoads/ ''74 Hohner MIJ strat/ 2 Partscasters

Amps:
Depends on when you ask. I got tired of constantly updating this section lol

Cabs
Marshall 1960A w V30s/ Seismic 2x12 w Redback and V30.

WGS used to be so great cuz they sounded almost as good as Celestion and better than Eminence and were substantially cheaper than them both, but their price point relative to resale value has changed so much that I no longer look at anything other than Celestion.

Seriously though the Invader and Reaper HP have been 12s of theirs I’ve always wanted to try.

Yeah the price increases suck, but I still see the value in them, since they're US made and a lot of the newer Celestions are MIC.

But yeah I tend to go with Celestions, I only looked at WGS this time because I needed 4ohms and it's hard to find 4ohms Celestions.

But now that I tried the Invader, I will consider using them in future cabs. They do sound really good. I'd describe them like a Greenback sound but with the tightness of the V30.

The G12-65 Heritage speakers are the first new speakers I've purchased in a long time. I usually hunt around for older Celestions when I'm on the hunt (which is a rarity these days). I have used WGS Veteran 30's before and thought they sounded great...I had no issues with them, other than that nagging thought that we musicians get, "but they're not Celestions." Haha.
