I was also thinking I would call this "how to turn a paperclip into a house", so I'll tell the tale behind that.

Earlier in 2023, I was contacted by a fella I traded a Splawn Quickrod to a few years ago, to see if I wanted to buy it back. I didn't REALLY want to, but I asked how much. He said "600" (Canadian, currently 450 USD) so I said sure! I enjoyed it for a couple weeks but I still prefered another amp I've got (GH50L), so I posted it for sale/trade. Got an offer for a Marshall Vintage Modern head & Gibson SG Special (Crescent Moon), and the guy threw in an extra $100 to meet him a little closer to his side, no problem.

Both were pretty cool, the VM was nice to spend some time with, but didn't dethrone the Laney, so I put it up for sale. Got $1000 Canadian for that, plus a Suhr Riot mini pedal, as the guy on the other end was visiting his elderly mother and I told him I was cool driving to meet him near there instead of him having to drive across hellscape that is the Greater Toronto Area.

Next up was the SG, in July a guy reached out to me asking if I would be interested in trading for a Rev. G Racto. I'm not a big Rectifier fan, great amps, but not my thing, but I said sure. The speedbump on this one being that the guy lives about an 8 hour drive from me. He asked if we should ship, but I asked if he was in a rush, as I had a fishing trip planned at the end of September where I would be driving right past his house. He said he could wait, so we did. I picked up the Racto and loaded it in the car on the start of a week long bushwhacking trip, only cursing the space it took up a couple times.

After getting it home, it was cool, but again, not my thing, so I posted it for sale/trade. Lots of tire kickers and offers, mostly bad. Until I stumbled on a guy looking to move this LP for a "high gain amp", we had agreement within 3 messages on tuesday, and met up last night in the middle of a snowstorm.

Perhaps the best part of all of this, is I met 3 like-minded gear nerds, each of whom I spent a long time speaking to in parking lots in all kinds of weather who I have kept in contact with after.

Anyways,

TL,DR - started with $600, ended with $1100, a cool pedal and a Les Paul

That’s an awesome and profitable string of transactions! Those don’t happen very often these days. Congrats on the LP man! It looks great!

It was an exciting year in that way  Its stressful to be carrying something that you don't like. Right now, everything is good, but I will need an additional amp at some point as I'm down to one.
