Found a deal on a JVM 210H today. $899. It should be here in a few days.

I've been wanting to give this amp a try for a long time.

Congrats! I've always loved the 2 channel over the 4 channel when I've played them. Just a great amp. I am eager for your comparison to the DSL.

That is a great deal!

I have the 215c 1x12 jvm 2 channel combo. I do like the green and orange modes most on the 2nd channel. Red is a bit too compressed. I had swapped the stock speaker with a celestion creamback neo.

Yeah I probably won't use the Red mode.

How do you like the Creamback Neo. I got a V-Type Neo a few weeks ago and I like it a lot. Much better than the first generation of Neo guitar speakers from decades ago and it's a great sounding speaker overall.
I haven't tried the Creamback version yet.

Neo Cream is a really good sounding speaker. A little bright, say brighter than a 75 Cream. Flatter mid roar compared to say 65 Cream, maybe even slightly scooped. Pretty damn close to a 75 though IMO.

Interesting. I may load one of cabs with them. The 4x12 would be the one that would benefit the most since the 2x12s are not that heavy to begin with. :hmm:

I liked the creamback neo more then the stock celestion in the jvm combo. I forget what the stock speaker was off hand. I'd imagine in 4x12 could be great or perhaps half v-type neo and half creamback could be interesting. I've not tried the v type neo's speakers so far. Yeah, the old neo speakers from many years didn't sound good at all to me (at least the limited experience i had with).

The amp is here. I've been playing for about an hour or so:

My favorite mode so far is the Orange OD. I think I will use it as my main rhythm tone, I can get what I need from that mode with the gain on3/10. Interestingly enough, that same amount of gain works on the Red OD for solos So I will probably do that.

The Green OD is cool too. So I am playing with 2 options: Green OD for rhythm/Orange LOD for lead with the gain set to 7. Or Orange OD for rhythm/Red OD for lead with the gain set to 3. Both work really well for me.

I haven't explored the clean channel yet, only the Green mode so far and it's a great clean tone.

The built-in reverb sounds great too. I am using the series loop for my delay and it works great,

I like the flexibility of this amp. It's an amp I could use straight in with no gain pedals at all and still have all my volume and gain changes on the footswitch. I think this amp will stay. I need to test it out with the band though. But I am impressed with it so far.

I will make a clip tomorrow. I am still waiting on the footswitch (I had to buy it separately). I want to have it to make the clip so I can switch between sounds.

On the 410s I played, I always gravitated to the Orange mode on both ODs. Just a great sound. I preferred OD1 to OD2 but I’m sure I could get 2 close enough to 1 with some knob turning. The 210’s OD channel is based on OD2.

I think they’re cool amps. I just feel the DSL has more authority in a mix but I don’t think the JVM is bad at all.

I have a feeling that will be the case. The DSL seems more open sounding at loud volumes. I will find out on Saturday.

The 410 has all the sounds of the 210 and a lot more, so I guess that's better if you want more options.

205 is the same as the 210 but it's 50w.

I was reading about a OD2 to OD1 mod, it's only 3 components:

Change R44 from 47k to 33k
- Change C31 from 1n5 to 1n0 (.001 ufd)
- Change C32 from 1n0 to 3n3 (.0033 ufd)

Seems easy. I will consider doing it if I keep the amp.

It can. Although it's tighter and more compressed than a Plexi. More modern so to speak. But it can get in the ballpark with the Crunch Mode.

Bill i owned two 50 watt heads and liked them

For me it was just a bit 2 compressed and stiff for me, the amp didnt "breath and bloom" the notes as much as other amps/Marshalls so... It is NOT a bad amp (not at all) it has a GREAT master volume, (any volume sounds good!) the midi works well, the effects loop is good and it has good rock tones for sure but it was just a bit to compressed for me

Im curious what you end up thinking
^ Good deals with Glizard (ADA), electricdreams (Vetta) Fat Lou (Splawn) Tubesteakfortone (Marshall 3203, Riot pedal) agreed (Hafler-Radial) twisty571 (Mosvalve 962) Orbis Mortis (egnater) ~Abstract~ (JC amp) jn062181 (AXE - FX) ^

So this ended up not being the right amp for me. It's not a bad amp by any means but it's not as open sounding as my other Marshalls. I can see this being a very good amp for modern metal since it's tight and compressed.

Anyway, I ended up returning it, but it was good to cross that amp off of my list

There were also some other issues that have nothing to do with the amp, but Sam Ash was not very forthcoming about the amp's cosmetic condition, there was a lot more wear than they described.

So in short, I bought 3 amps this week but the only one I kept was the little Fender Princeton

I actually kind of figured that would be the end result. I don’t think it’s a bad amp, but it’s not as open as the DSL. Much more compressed. So I kinda figured it wouldn’t be the one for Billy. The DSL still retains a lot of the Marshall bark and thump. It’s more saturated than an 800 for sure, but not as compressed as a JVM.
