Remembered I have a couple/few old Tung Sol 12AT7 tubes I got from a thrift store bulk find. I assume they're from the 60s but I haven't researched them.

Anyway, per Billy's advice I decided to toss one in the PI slot of the DSL I've been working on. After replacing a few blown resistors I changed the PI tube at the same time.

Turn it on, and .... whisper quiet volume almost like it was when I bought it (cheap DOA project).

Got pissed thinking I blew another heater resistor, but it ended up just being a dead preamp tube

Tossed in the Mullard that came with it, and all is good. Then said screw it and installed a choke that I found for $8 on Reverb.

I'm going to try very hard to not flip this amp. It just oozes solid rock tone. Oddly enough I'm liking this with Mesa V30s.

To be fair, the difference with 12AT7 is somewhat subtle. Unless the tube is dead. Then the difference is pretty big

And yeah I run my DSL with V30s. It's a good match.
