Thats certainly your right.
At first I wasn't sure if I supported this reunion but it grew on me. I'll go see them when they play around here.

That's my thing! I think as a whole, it would've been received much better if they just stuck with Pantera Celebration or something, because some folks really let it get stuck in their craw about the word 'reunion' it's crazy.

Maybe it's because it sounds very different than the original Pantera. But that's probably the right way to do it. Different players, different sound. I'd hate to see 2 guys trying to parrot Dime and Vinnie.

They're playing sold out shows everywhere so I think it's been well received? The complaints seem to be more of an internet thing and it's not really affecting attendance.

At the end of the day Phil and Rex are a huge part of Pantera so I think they earned the right to perform as Pantera. Now,if the brothers were alive and kept out of the tour, no way that would've been accepted. But they're not. So they took 2 of their closest friends and got clearance from the Abott estate. I don't see how this could've been any more legitimate, given the circumstances.

Back to the FOH engineer... I love how he calls the huge side fills they used to have on stage "Texas Headphones" Man that must've been crazy loud lol

I bought two tickets to see them with Lamb of God. Definitely not cheap. But my wife became a big Pantera fan well after we lost Dime, so she never got a chance to see these songs live, so fuck it. We go.

Given what you just said, I took the liberty of looking. Baltimore close enough to your neck of the woods? Feb 24th, CFG Bank Arena, also with LoG.

Yeah I'm actually buying a house right outside of Baltimore at the moment. Closing on January 2nd. So yeah that's going to be easy to go to.

These interviews are great always learn things. Seems like a cool sound guy.

Interesting he's not using any outboard gear. It seems lot lot of big time sound engineers that i've watched interviews on at least recently most seem either run some outboard hardware gear and or for example waves rack /sound grid server fed in console to supplement what their console has with certain waves plugins that they say for certain things they prefer to whats included in console. There sure is benefit in keeping things simpler especially if console's build in processing and effects sound good.

Ha.

Nick, the guy doing the interview, is a really good personal friend of mine. He just started leaning into doing these interviews not too long ago. Love seeing him get these spots.

Dude, I feel very similarly. I love Pantera, and Zakk is a fucking weird ass goofball, but I can't get into this. It doesn't feel the same. I'd see them if I was seeing another band, but they're playing in Tampa with LoG next year, and I just can't bring myself to spend $400 on 2 tickets. If it was real Pantera, I would've bought them already, but not that price for this. I love LoG, but every show of theirs I've been to has been under $65 lol.

I agree they've done it as best as possible, but I still can't get into it. I liked Pantera fine before Dime passed, but it wasn't until somewhere around 2010-2012 that I really started loving their music. I never got to see Dime play those songs, and I don't think I'd be happy seeing them played live by someone else. Maybe I'd feel differently if I saw them with the Abbot brothers, but it lives in the museum in my head for eternity, I guess.

I was shocked by how much I enjoyed Phil's Pantera tribute band on the Slayer tour, but the "Reunion" tour holds zero interest for me. I feel like I saw the real Pantera once, I saw Phil's later-day tribute, I'm probably good on Pantera. Zack's cool, and I'm sure I'll see him somewhere down the line doing something else, but the rest? Meh.

FOH stuff fascinates me just from the sheer perspective of the power involved. I'll probably try to watch this when I have a few extra momemnts.

Yeah if it were just me, I’d pass. I’ve seen Pantera with Dime and Vinnie four times, so no need for this. But my wife really wants to see this, so might as well.

Will be good to finally see LoG.

Nice!

I've seen LoG a shit ton of times over the last 20 years, and it's been pretty hit or miss. They were KILLER before Randy went to prison, but since then, they've kinda gone the Metallica route...the shows just feel a little older, if that makes any sense...they're older, the fans are getting older, you know how it goes. From being 20 years old filled with testosterone and rage to being settled in married life with kids and a job that doesn't let up...I think it comes for most of us. I still see them every time since they're one of my all time favorites, and it's still always a great time. We caught them a couple of times on the Slayer tour, which meant 30 min sets, which is too short! They also had to stop a set because someone got injured, so they only played 3 or 4 songs that night, which was a bummer. But yeah, you will enjoy them, I'm sure, if you like them haha. They are tight and sound great, and still using Mesas on stage.

i would have loved to hear this line up as a new band doing their own thing that does an extended 45 minute or something "celebration" of Pantera at the gigs. it would basically be the same thing without pissing the 15yr old in me off calling it "Pantera" and maybe we could have gotten some cool new music too. i dont think that would be selling out arenas and headlining huge festivals though.

He's a very well-spoken, and obviously into his craft! A very interesting interview, even if I don't know much about FOH systems, and that bit of the business.
