Late to the Party: Ghost
Piggybacking off of Murdoch's theme here..
Last week I watched the below Ben Eller vid on Ghost and I thought some of those riffs are pretty dope, I should revist them. When they first came out I remember thinking the music and aesthetic didn't seem to match and found the music fairly meh. Over the past week I have been working my way chronologically through their discography. The first couple albums really gave me Blue Oyster Cult vibes. Pretty cool.
This may be an unpopular opinion among hardcore fans, but I have to say I like the two latest albums the best. The guitars have more gain (the SLO has broken my ears ) and more epic shreddy leads which I appreciate. Tons of guitar harmonies. And it seems Tobias really stepped up his vocals, there is a more epic/operatic quality to them that I dig. Also the production, especially on the newest album Impera, is excellent IMO. Killer bass tone and the kick drum sounds glorious on a good system.
What's the consensus around here? Y'all hate 'em or what?
Also came across this video this morning and thought it was hilarious:

Re: Late to the Party: Ghost
This song slaps. Cheesy 80's af and I love it.
Re: Late to the Party: Ghost
I can get into Ghost at times. My favorite is probably Meliora, but that’s their most aggressive record and I’m a metal guy, so that tracks.
He writes some really cool shit. It’s more theater than anything, I mean people go to their shows with that Ghost cross on dressed as nuns.

Damn I wanna meet me one of these slutty nun rocker chicks.
I'll have to revisit Meliora after I'm done rocking the fuck out of Impera. Apparently lead player from Opeth tracked the guitars on this album with a Friedman BE-100, Mark IIC+ and some brand called Olsson which I've never heard of. if I don't end up with a 5153 at some point I may go Friedman. Esizer keeps telling me I would like them. I do remember playing a Dirty Shirley I thought sounded really fucking good but never sent time with the BE.
Re: Late to the Party: Ghost
I’ve never played one personally…I hardly play any more…but from the way I understand it, you like Marshalls with giant balls? Friedman.
I know Billy has owned a couple. Maybe not the BE but I think he had a Runt?

You seemed to love Matt's Butterslax at Pickle's place a few years back. Plus it survived when it was knocked off the cab on to the concrete floor of the garage

I agree with all of this. The song that got me into the band is Square Hammer. It is like 70s lyrics with 80s riffs and modern production values.
Re: Late to the Party: Ghost
I love that song. Forgot about it. The synths in it are fantastic.

Yeah, Meliora was the turning point for me. I honestly don't like the early records because THERE IS NO BAND I HATE MORE THAN BLUE OYSTER CULT. I ACTUALLY WANT TO HIT THEM. But from Meliora on, the music got really good and I've liked every album since them.
Guitars:
'78 Les Paul Pro / '89 SG Special/ '04 Gibson Les Paul Classic 3 pickup / Jackson Star/ Endres Tele / Fernandes Rhoads/ ''74 Hohner MIJ strat/ 2 Partscasters
Amps:
Depends on when you ask. I got tired of constantly updating this section lol
Cabs
Marshall 1960A w V30s/ Seismic 2x12 w Redback and V30.

Is that beef personal or artistic? I have never met anyone particularly passionate one way or the other about BOC.

No it's not personal. I just hate their music. I think it's by far the shittiest band in history. Their songs have the energy level of a sloth on Benadryl.

Re: Late to the Party: Ghost
That one song where he does the Millennial whoop and has his likeness ballet dance in the music video made me realize it's just pop music.

After trying to give them a chance over the past month…
Now I really fucking hate Ghost. Not only do I hate their music, but I hate that my Spotify algorithm is 100x more fucked with Ghost than it was before.

I'm really starting to dislike that no upper lipped Ben guy; who creepily calls himself Uncle Ben. I enjoy the one album I have from Ghost. I think it's their second one. That's some great pop rock silly satan stuff.

They’re pendejo #1’s favorite band and were his first concert. I asked him to send me a few of his favorite tracks by them so I could give a fair peep.
Dey aight. Not my thing and more theatrical than I tend to like but I can dig it- when in Sodom, or Gomorrah. :kevinjames:
