Late to the Party: DevilDriver

Post by Murdoch »

I know I can’t be the only one who avoided this band because Dez Fafara also fronted Coal Chamber, and as we all know, that band is ewwwww.

But I’ve been listening to DevilDriver for the past couple of days, specifically The Fury of Our Malker’s Hand and The Last Kind Words. Holy shit. I’ve been missing out. This is some furious fucking groove metal. Better late than never, I guess.

I like them, in small doses. They sound good but a lot of their songs sound the same. Not in the sense that they're the same riffs or lyrics but they are very similar in sound and structure.
Kind of like a metal AC/DC. Not that they sound anything like AC/DC but they have that kind of "sameness" throughout their career.
Guitars:
'78 Les Paul Pro / '89 SG Special/ '04 Gibson Les Paul Classic 3 pickup / Jackson Star/ Endres Tele / Fernandes Rhoads/ ''74 Hohner MIJ strat/ 2 Partscasters

Amps:
Depends on when you ask. I got tired of constantly updating this section lol

Cabs
Marshall 1960A w V30s/ Seismic 2x12 w Redback and V30.

I would agree with this, though from what I have heard they do have some killer riffs and grooves. They definitely sound nothing like Coal Chamber, though.

Also late to the party. I didn't know DevilDriver existed until about 4 months ago. If Blood is Life and Through the Depths hit pretty hard.

Yeah they definitely have some killer riffs. Again, I like their music.

I liked Coal Chamber's first album but nothing after.

Clouds Over California is a mini-masterpiece, imo. No shame \m/

I generally enjoyed the first 3 Devil Driver albums. The last track on The Last Kind Words, The Axe Shall Fall, is a personal favorite. I wound up buying Pray For Villains also but didn’t listen as much. I fell off after that.
