Saw The Cure last night

Post by GuitarBilly »

Damn what a killer show!!! I'm not even a huge Cure fan ( I like them alright though) but the show was amazing.
The sound quality was phenomenal and the band is crazy tight. Really one of the best live performances I've seen recently.
Adding Reeves Gabrels on lead guitar was a huge plus because they had lots of extended instrumental parts with lead guitar, which is different for The Cure. And Reeves is a phenomenal guitar player, truly underrated. The jams were probably a way to give Robert Smith's voice a break here and there. Speaking of which, his voice sounds incredibly strong.
They played for over 2 1/2 hours, including several new songs (which were great) and the show didn't feel long at all.

I highly recommend anyone who even remotely like The Cure to go see them on this tour. They don't tour very often and it's definitely worth it.

I saw them a couple of times in the early 80's, 1st time was in a shitty sports hall on the edge of a uni campus, really good both times.

My wife is taking my daughter to see them tonight in Atlanta. I took my wife to see them maybe a little less than ten years ago.

The 1st time was 1981 (supported by "the passions," so i can date it by their only hit "I'm in love with a german film star").

The 2nd gig was a year or so later in a proper venue, the support band was called "and also the trees," they played only 1 song which lasted the length of the entire set.
