I'm gonna make a solo trip to the NY Philharmonic in March

Post by mortatone »

Chris Thile, Jacob Collier, and Madison Cunningham will be performing together for one night only as part of the 65th Street Session Series. I'm a big fan of Chris Thile and Madison Cunningham already and am currently learning about this Jacob Collier guy.

Bought a single ticket for the event last night and will figure out the rest later. I've physically been in NYC but never actually had a destination there. Very much looking forward to this little solo journey and super excited to catch a couple of my heroes in an improvisational setting in the Big Apple. FUCK YES!

Madison is my favorite young artist and super talented in all of the ways. I can only imagine what might happen with two other musicians on that high level when left to just play. Much much excite!

Nice room. From what I hear the load-in is a bitch but there is plenty of natty light in the green room.

Enjoy!

Hopefully, we can hook up for a beer or two!!!

Some things to check out:

Elaine's Stardust Diner - a 10 minute walk from your show at Lincoln Center. It's a very loud, fun, food spot with singing waiters and waitresses. Very touristy with a line to get in.

Metropolitan Museum of Art - Lots of old art but, check out the Musical Instruments collection and the Suits of Armor & Weapons collection.

Top of the Empire State Building - for a really nice view

Otto's Shrunken Head - a small, hipster tiki bar with live music.

Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum - tour a WWII aircraft carrier and submarine

Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises - a boat ride around the island of Manhattan with entertaining narration. March may be a bit too cold for a boat ride especially, if it's windy.

Yeah man if it's an easy ride I can come your way or you, mine. Hell yea!

I'm only gonna be there for 2 nights Not sure yet if I'll be arriving the day of the show or the day before, but I have nothing planned so far except for this show. I'd like to see if there's gonna be another cool show to catch either the day before or the day after, before booking the flight.

As for other stuff to do during the day.. I might just leave the time pretty free and walk around and just let whatever take me to wherever. And if part of that time is you showing me something that's great too
