Incoming Warm Audio WA-73 EQ.

Post by TurboPablo »

Just grabbed one from Zzounds since they are on sale. Along with my WA-12 I will finally have to good preamps for my RME Babyface. Looking forward to messing with it when it gets here.

I would go for that api. You might need a stereo fix some day. And that’s a fair price for such a piece

I have an S&M which are not all that expensive but very well loved and very musical. More on the surgical side and especially good on guitar cabinets.

I should have gotten another 512 instead of one of the others. It’s wise to have a stereo pair for overheads. The shadow hills does get close depending on what tranny is selected but you want identical +/- for over heads. The gold one is a Neve built by Neves longtime engineer. It has Carnhill transformers for proper Neve color. Then API. Which always sounds right, never fail & no excuses.
I use a api channel strip most of the time because it’s already hooked up and sounds incredible. The Shadow Hills is refined and detailed and expensive sauce. The ocean audio in grey is absolutely awesome. Built by Malcolm Toft who
Designed the Trident A , rich and punchy. Especially bad ass on a bass gtr :) the Pico comp is pure magic no matter how extreme it’s still musical. Built by Roger Foote. I bought that directly from Roger and the grey ocean audio was a limited run hand signed by Malcolm. One of the best reasons to go with a lunch box is that ability to mix n match. For a killer channel or purpose. Also portable.

But again my go to is the api channel strip. It has everything you need right there. Pre, comp & eq with stunning sonic quality.

With this set up using a Lynx pci card I can track 6 tracks live with that Lavry blue interface. So enough for a nice small session. Mixing all in the box but the Lynx does have 8 in/ out and I have 2 of those. So I could run a board if I ever have the room. Run a small project studio someday perhaps. But not necessary for my bedroom noodles. The point is you want to be able to track a session should the opportunity arise.

Any functional or sonic differences between the 500 stuff and U series rack mount stuff?

None that I hear or am aware of. They use the same opamps in all of their stuff. Even the high end boards are completely modular and use the same components
