RIP Dan aka Mailman1971

Post by GuitarBilly »

Hi guys,

I just heard that Dan (Mailman1971) passed away. Dan was a mod at Rig Talk and a member here and he actually helped me out quite a bit when I started out this forum and was learning to manage it etc.. so I knew him well and I consider him a dear friend.

A mod at RT will be organizing a fundraiser for his family very soon and I will be posting the link here for those who want to help his family in this difficult time. At the end of the day, we're all a part of the same community (guitar) and share many friends across all forums and I believe we have more in common than differences.

Dan was an asset to all communities, with his always positive attitude and disposition, which is very much needed these days.

Please say a prayer or save a thought for Dan and his family tonight.

I will post more details as they come.

Thanks!!

Billy

Yeah, I saw that over on RT. He was a great guy from what I know. Didn't know him personally but spent enough time off and on the forums and had some group texts he was in. Always super chill type of guy and never got bent out of shape online like many of us can do.

Tragic stuff, feel bad for his wife and close friends. RIP Male Man Dan.

I was hoping you would post this over here. Thank you Billy. The world is a perilous place and I believe its going to get worse and its a blessing to have places like this and Rigtalk with fellow brothers. Sometimes to just escape or see what everybody is jammin on. Be thankful everyday and quick to forgive, ya never know when you may need that same mercy. R.I.P. Dan and definitely praying for peace in your family :heartbr:

The first amp I sold online was to Dan back in 2005/2006, the Metaltronix M-1000. Since then we would occasionally trade drunken middle-of-the-night PMs on rig-talk, where he would usually bring up his military service. Super great guy who will be missed tremendously.

Don't go there much but Dan was a great guy in the few interactions I did have with him as well as his general demeanor in the forum there. Which is a sh!tshow a lot of times, if we're being honest. RIP.

Dan/Mailman was a good one. Never had a bad interaction with him ever. Mojo sent to his wife and family. So sorry they're going through this. RIP.

A few years ago we were talking about the Metaltronix and he said "The volume control on that thing is backwards, it starts at 10."

Hey guys..I just posted this over on rig talk so I thought I would just copy and paste it here...if that's cool with Bill....

I have tried to make contact with Dan's wife but I have not been able to so far at this point. I'm only able to use Dan's cell, that's the only contact info I have. I'm hoping that eventually she sees my texts and responds. It's a fine line I'm trying to walk here, and respect their grieving, and not cross any boundaries. As soon as possible-if a gofundme page gets set up for Dan-I will post everything here. I have also contacted guitarbilly over on the guitar amp forum and he will also cross post all info over there as well. Just trying to keep everyone in the loop as to what is happening. gofundme did suggest that I could go ahead and do something on my own...however I'm just not comfortable doing that. Like I said-I DO NOT want to cross any boundaries with Dan's family. I just want them to know that there's a ton of people out there that care about them, and had so much love for Dan. Thank you and God bless all of you.

as soon as I get more info I will update Bill. Thanks guys. This is a tough one for me. Dan was my bro and we got each other through some bad patches for each of us. He supported me when I almost died a couple times , and I had his back when he was in a similar state last year. I don't know. This is tough. Just be good to each other.

Saw this the other night and was blown away.

Dan and I went to the same HS and talked shit to each other for years on RT and text.

He’s the one that kicked me such a sick deal on the Herbert and Armageddon back in 2020, just said he knew I’d dig on em and he wanted a bro to have them, not a collector.

Didn’t get a chance to see him when I was there last, was stuck in Detroit for work the whole time and Bridgeport was too far for me to get to, figured I had more time.

Very sad and feel for his wife and kids.

Here's an update on this, from jackbootedthug (mod at Rig Talk):

Just spoke to Dan's wife. He was buried Monday at the Michigan veteran's cemetery. She says she keeps his phone on silent. He has over a hundred messages. She said sometimes she can't bear to look at it. She is struggling with the situation . She said she's like a zombie and sorry she doesn't reach out, but still trying to swallow the whole situation. I once again reiterated that we wanted to reach out and help but she gratefully declined. She said that his life insurance will take care of them. She was fine with me letting everyone know that. She said thank you for your kindness, she is taking it a day at a time. If anything changes in the future I will let you know.

So we will respect his widow wishes and not do a fundraiser. But I'll keep this thread stickied for a while as a memorial to Dan.
