IK Multimedia AXE I/O JFET

Post by mrblue »

I just received an AXE I/O interface to use for recording and playing through Amplitube 5. The unit itself is pretty cool and sounds over all really great with Amplitube. However, there is one feature that I don't really understand: the JFET switch. According to IK Multimedia, it's a "Class A JFET input buffer for subtle harmonic enhancement, midrange focus and warmth." Honestly, I don't notice any difference when this feature is engaged. Maybe if I listen really, really, close I think I can hear some tonal difference, but it's so slight that I wonder if it might just be psychological.

Does anyone else have any experience with the AXE I/O? Is the JFET feature just a gimmick on this device? Or is it actually doing something?

That looks like a nice unit. I wouldn’t worry about it too much. It’ll probably be more noticeable on lead track. Or just on a big clean part. Like the impedance thing. Subtle but useful.

I forget to look in this forum I’ve had the axe io for at least a year probably 2. The jfet doesn’t really add much if any imo there ztone dial or whatever can change things up.
